well the lady did not turn up for the rug and i took the advice of another poster and put it on ebay for £12 buy it now or make an offer and lady has bought it for £10 !!! Gosh and I couldnt give it away but sold it for £10 instead beggars belief
My mate had a lovely 1950s burr walnut veneer wardrobe and dressing table and he stuck them in his garden with a sign "free please help yourself" no one took them, he was going to take them to the tip but I said put a sign up "for sale £25 o.n.o." we went to the pub and came back they were gone. People are fascinating.

Offered a bed and have got an almost immediate response:

Hi do you deliver to (town 20 miles away). Need one for my daughter

Well, since you asked so nicely.

    No.

    ETA: And now:

hello im just asking have u still got ya bed

Yes, yes I have. And I will give it to a person who uses proper English and some manners.
  • I gave up with freecycle.
I hated the fact you were expected to ring mobile numbers to arrange delivery for them!
    Hardly ever a thank you.
Greedy people asking what other stuff you have got without a please or thankyou, cos they will obviously just take anything.
And one lady I gave stuff to twice, and then she had the cheek to message me about somehting else that she missed out on that she NEVER gets picked for anything. I had to remind her she had had TWO lots previously that cost hundreds of pounds.

I will never use the site again personally.

this just appeared on my local group
Brand new pair of Australian Ugg boots, size 7. Cream suede, sheepskin
    lined. Never worn.

seriously someone wants to give them away are they the genuine sort !!!
My guess is that everyone who replies will either be ignored or told that they have given them to another user.
Then a week later this same person will put on a request for something valuable. People will read it, remember how generous they were last week and offer it to them.

We have a really funny freecycler on ours, his posts are SO entertaining, Im sure he would be a fantastic writer!

A hearty afternoon freecyclers. I am 6ft with a shed that has a door opening
of 5ft, can you see my problem? Having been married I am used to banging myhead against the wall.

As I have built a new one at the other end of the garden that is almost good enough to live in (I have low standards) it is time to happily wave/burn goodbye to the old, creaking, leaning and cobwebcollecting structure. I have removed all the homeless people and gypsies from it however a few rebel spiders have found their way back.

It will take some care to dismantle and possible a few repairs but it is
water tight. It measures around 8-10 ft by 5-6 ft but I was a metric baby so
could be off a little. Seeing as though I have just been out for a 7 mile
run, I don’t have the energy, motivation, mobility or enthusiasm to check
it. However if it is important to you, I will measure later.

Collector to dismantle with a generous cup of tea and biscuit allowance.

Freecycle is awful at times, people don't show up or even reply to emails, it seems people just want new items and then moan that what you have offered them is not brand new!!
But on a lighter note ~
One lady once posted an ad asking for a decorator or numbers for a decent decorator as she was disabled and couldn't manage to re-paper her lounge, being the fab person I am (lol) I offered to go and do it for her, which she gratefully accepted. I went there a few days later and wallpapered a huge wall for her, while she hobbled back and forth the kitchen all day bringing me tea. When I finished I cleaned up the mess and was about to leave when she pressed a £20 note into my hand and told me to treat the children, I really didn't want to take it, and tried leaving the money on the table but she hobbled up to the car and gave it to me again. Aw bless, that was my good deed done :), She had told me that she had lots of replies and people were saying they would do it for £100 and the like, I just said I'd pop to hers and paper, she could have in fact been a crazed axe murderer but it turned out good in the end :)
    :o
  • again i advertised something this time from my self got loads of rude responses no please or thank you saying can you deliver in the end put it on ebay buy it now £10 a woman nearby seen it and kept toing and froing with messages about when she could or couldnt collect went on for days in the end local man pipped her to the post bought the item and came and collected next day - gave me £10 was so pleased as just what he was looking for and even said i could have asked more for it. I was just pleased it went to a decent home and the man was so nice and polite - certainly different type of customers !! And i had £10 in my pocket - needless to say the lady toing and froing came back to me and i had pleasure in telling her it had been sold

So thats 3 items lately nearly new no one on freecycle could get their @rse in gear and sort out and I made £50 for my sister and £10 to me. No freecycle again for me.
