ohhh freegle gigglers I KNOW you'll appreciate this..

i offered something earlier. TWICE i sent my address to the collector who kept saying i was sending him blank messages.

    but it's ok "
I got your address off the directions so I will leave from xxxx now so will only be 10 minutes or so and I will beep 3 times...I am driving a xxxx".

dream on love.......... i've looked - those directions won't send you to my house (about a mile away)

    next message:

"I am stood by the post box on xxxx"

thats nice, I'm at home with my kids - a mile and a half away.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

    this was the actual ad

Cant believe I am posting this, but it seems the holidays have taken a big toll
on my finances. if anyone has any spare cat food for my two cats,(and frontline
if thats not pushing it) and anything spare for a 9 yr old boy to snack on I
would be very grateful. I have main meals for him,but he seems to be hungry in
between every meal, (so sorry to be asking,so humiliating) I would be very
grateful if anyone can spare something please. can collect tomorrow evening.
    many thanks in advance,

There was a tv programme a while back about food banks and the person claiming poverty re food for her children was interviewed at home. Behind her was a floor to ceiling bookcase of hundreds of dvds... it did leave me wondering about her priorities...

Offered a really nice coffee table (we are only getting rid because we want something smaller) yesterday.

One non-reply to the first person I offered it too.

One failed collection from someone who made a point of asking me to let him know either way!

Offered it to someone else (without address, wanted to be sure she still wanted it) who sounded keen and would check their emails 8pm to see if i've replied... sent another message this morning giving her a deadline since I heard nothing!

Arrrgh! Really want rid asap too!

Will have a desk (won't come apart to fit in a car) in a week to give away, so I am going to stick it in the garden with a big sign saying "free" in the hopes it will walk away. We are at the top of a one way street though so don't know if that will work.
  • I´m happy to report that it worked out well in the end.

One of the five people I offered the books to got in touch to say that they´d found my email in their spam folder (which may have been why nobody answered - although all five ...?). They´ve just been to collect the books, and brought me a bottle of wine

Suffice it to say that if I make any more offers on Freecycle I shall add in bold print: ´Please check your spam folder for replies´!
I joined our local Freecycle here in Spain as I have dozens of books I want to get rid of. Of the 20+ requests I received, I offered them to five people. Not one has answered. I wondered if I´m doing something wrong, I replied directly to their emails and they appear to have been delivered ... looks like the books will be going into the recycling bin ...

Lucky number 4 the table is gone!

Blocked all the timewasters from my email so they don't waste my time with future items.

Going to give dumping the desk in the garden with a "FREE" sign a go.

I got a £475 laser printer off my group this week, having given something to the person I got it from before.

    What goes around comes around...

Now to put my A3 colour laser printer on (wifes orders - its too big for at home), it needs a small fix but is still good.

I regret getting rid of my Scenic and getting a small car -just missed out on a oak king size bed frame.

i can't get rid of my old sofas at all (2 freegle groups, 10 facebook free/ sale sites, gumtree, preloved and my local forum).

had one who was definatly coming - confirmed 4 hours before pick up (via text) that they would be there - so had my mobile number and e-mail address.

An hour after agreed time i text them to see if they were coming "no, we've got something better now".
That was it - no apology, nothing.

Then someone posted on Wednesday desperate for a couple of sofas. I offered them mine - the reply: "oh thanks - I'll pick them up NEXT TUESDAY". what dreamworld do people live in???

I've lost count of how many people want me to hang onto them until they get a van sorted.....again fair enough but with the amount of timewasters so far why would I hold them for a week - taking up space in my tiny house - incase they fail to show.

I'm going to end up having to ring the local council and pay to get them disposed of (charities don't want them as being 6 years old they have no fire tags).

Yes they do need a scrub up, and cushions need covers stitching - however if you do like we have and put a throw on them they are comfy enough and in a good sound condition. and definatly got to be better then sitting on the floor.

As for the mirror...............it's still here. another e-mail from him asking for my address, still in my timewaster folder.
my Freecycle group don't want to know and according to their guidance notes "people won't show up, it happens and you'll just have to accept it" (well not in those words but basically).

    bargain mttylad.

No shows are unfortunately just something that happens and there is very little the mods can do about it.

It would take lots of complaints against an individual then they could be warned, further complaints ending up in their removal from the group.

However, as it is Freecycle, if it is on the MyFreecycle site the mods may not even have the ability to do even this. They have some strict rules that the mods have to follow (or they did when I was with them).

However2, a lot is also down to how well an item is described, has a photo been posted - is the condition well described etc?

Now I'm not saying that its anyone's fault that something is not taken, just suggesting ways to make the item more appealing.

This is an admin that used to be sent out (and probably still is) to try and help prevent this.
"Sometimes we get complaints from members that when they turn up to collect things, their condition is not as described, and sometimes not fit for anything other than the tip. Please can people be honest when they describe items; it is not fair to pretend something is better than it is and is wasteful of people's time and resources when they turn up to collect something only to find they do not want it because they have been misled. It also makes them really annoyed! Here are a few tips

    When making an offer -

DO describe the item properly and say if it is broken or faulty or
scratched, damaged etc. To be fair, most people seem to do this but
    not everyone does.

DO post a photo of the item in the Photos section if you can, and if
it would be helpful. To do this, click on Photos in the left hand panel.

DO NOT use the group as a means of dumping rubbish on unsuspecting members.

When responding to an offer -

DO ask about the condition of the item and find out as much as you can before agreeing to take it; this may also include how bulky it is

DO realise you can change your mind when you go to collect, although admittedly that may not always be easy

DO let us know if you think someone has been dishonest, and we will
get in touch with them, but only if you want us to.

As well as that - do not just jump at the first person who responds - these are often autoresponders or people that ask for everything.

But in the end, there are still going to be those ignorant !!!!!!s that just cannot let someone know they are unable to turn up - it only takes an email/phone call.

I give out an old mobiles number for them to call - incoming calls only - if they are not going to turn up, if they do not turn up or call or email then I will email them asking them to get in touch asap, if no response within 24 hours (or by the time I specify) I will contact someone else.
  • Today on my local freegle someone was requesting a dog lead - not any lead but had to be a Cath Kidston blue and red striped one.
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

    Well, I did it.

My watch reseller posted another wanted last night and I saw red. I posted as someone here had suggested "Wanted, a little honesty". It was seen by most of the group before the post was removed, but I also posted to the Cafe group and that post was allowed to stay.

Moderators are apparently "looking into it" which is odd as they told me they were looking into it over a month ago.

Either way, job done and everyone is aware now. Mods tell me the watch man is aware of the posts yet he's strangely not posted anything to either the cafe group or freecyle.
