I check people's posting history now before I make my decision. We've got quite a few people who have never offered anything - for some all their posts are Wanted, others don't post at all so I presume they just reply to Offers.

As the main ethos for Freegle is to stop usable stuff being thrown away, I don't object entirely to people reselling things on but I would prefer my goods go to someone who wants them for themselves.

I always leave some time before making a decision because the "professional" freeglers are always the first to answer.

Is it freecycle etiquette that mods get first dibs on stuff? y.

No it is not - the mods have no more right to an item than anyone else. If I respond to an item I will wait until it appears in my own inbox and also make it clear that I am list owner and if they would prefer to wait before making a decision then that is fine.

Best way around it in your position is to NOT give it to the first person who replies but wait for a couple of hours at least.

Advertised a bed with 4 drawers today - wanted it to go today. Was in very good nick as used as a spare top quality item. Had an email asking for pics from one lady which i sent then she said oh the bed looks damaged has the drawers collapsed - I said no it is like new - she never got back to me. Lovely lady emailed me and said she could pick up today as she was fairly local - had to make 2 journeys and was sleeping on the floor - she was so pleased she said she been looking for ages - Just had an email from someone to say can i have the drawers only as dont want the mattress ! Sorry dear not only has the item gone but I want it both shifted.

  • Some "Wanted" gems from my local Freecycle over the weekend:-

Someone is after a Kindle "if anyone has one lying around not being used" ... good luck with that one ... :rotfl:

Across three listings: "Needed For My Nephew Who's Just Got His First Wee Home And Has Absolutely Nothing To Put in it...

    1. Kitchen Stuff/ Pots/Pans/Cutlery/Crockery

    2. Working Cooker and Washing Machine

    3. Double Bed and Working Fridge/Freezer"

Surprised there's not a kitchen sink mentioned there! I listed 5 or 6 things over the weekend and this same person e-mailed me saying they wanted it all for their "wee nephew". No "please" or "thank you" in sight ...

And two gems both from the same poster:-

"hi im wondering if anyone can braid/cornrow hair? im looking my daughters hair done like they do when u go away on holiday"

    What?! :undecided

"hi im looking for a puppy please, needs to be a puppy as i have a cat, yorkshire terrier, pomeranian,i will also consider a collie or german shepard, but no cross breeds please , please email me with a pic and your location and contact number, thanks, have chosen these breeds as i know they are usually fine with cats and would like puppy to grow up being used to my cat, thanks for reading"

    WHAT??!!

  • I recently offered a garden shed and some of the replies were unbelievable. There was a few of the usual 'I'll have it'.

There was one saying 'Thanks. please deliver to ******'
They must have confused me with B&Q :rotfl:

There was 2 who said 'Give me your address and I will come round and see if I will take it'

Needless to say I didn't offer it to any of them:p

I'm thinking of putting a "Wanted" up this week, just to try my luck.....

"Wanted....a 5 carat or larger diamond ring. If anyone has one lying around that they don't wear, get in touch. Must be 18 carat gold, or platinum as I'm allergic to cheap stuff. Can collect but only afternoons as I watch Jeremy Kyle in the mornings."

What do you think my chances are????

i asked for some fancy dress for my kids for tinywiggle's birthday party (before going hunting in town this week)................

I got told by 1 person they had one that I could BORROW. but it was their child's favourite possession so I MUST give it back when I had finished with it.

    Politely declined that one!!!
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
