  • i got a 3 piece suite off a sale page on fb cos the one that I originally had I didnt like, it was too small for me and the kids and I found the modern square shape design very uncomfortable but it did the job before i could get another.

When I found the one I wanted I needed to get rid of the one I had, so I stuck it on freecycle, stating that It was in good condition, a modern design and from harveys, would have been perfect for someone setting up home, but that it needed a clean as it had moved 3 times with me in 2 years and 2 small kids later it was a little grubby. the one stipulation was that it needed collecting tuesday night as i was getting my new ones wed morning. I had plenty of people asking about it, asking for pictures etc-which fortunately I had taken but forgot to add to freecycle, but then everyone who was 'sooooo interested/really want this' never got back to me!!!!!

I have a Scottie Dog with advanced liver disease, he wont eat prescription diet (and if you'd seen it you'd know why!!) and by far the best thing I can do for him is home cook his meals. I bulk cook every fortnight using beef, chicken, turkey and white fish with a ton of veggies ranging from Asparagus to Courgette, takes me a good few hours but he's worth it. Something like that on Freecycle would be great for me and I have to say I'd not considered it. I tend to stalk the reduced counters in Tesco looking for anything I can use in his meals.

On my local group, all from the same person within 2 mins of each other. I have copied and pasted these verbatim:

    WANTED: FRIDGE FREZZER

    WANTED: WASHING MACHINE

    WANTED: PS3

    WANTED: GAS COOKER

    WANTED: DISHWASHER

I wonder how much they'd charge YOU for the privilege of delivering them to them!!!

They forgot to mention that they'd allow you to pay for the gas fitter too

    ohhhh sooo cross!!

offered something yesterday on both my local groups get a reply off one and then from the other "already sent you a message thanks" - as if they had a god given right to it. So ok i thought - you are most certainly bottom of my list.

Given they were one of 2 and could pick up same day I did offer to them.

40 minutes after collection time i sent an e-mail saying I didn't like timewasters and was therefore re-offering. IMMEDIATLY i get a reply stating they were stuck in traffic for an hour (never at 5pm on a saturday night at an address next to a footie gound where a match was being played). and that they would collect in the morning. OHHH and get this - it is MY FAULT she was late taking her medication!!!!

I left it at that. Just had a 2nd e-mail from them having a go at me about my attitude and how I should be more accomodating.

REALLY winds me up - they won't be offered anything again and TBH I'd rather just bin stuff then waste my night waiting for no shows.

WOW!!! You should have let her come all the way to the meeting point, then told her she couldn't have it.

one posted on my freecycle: WANTED: APPLE LAPTOP iBOOK OR POWERBOOK G4.

Person "desperately needs one, please reply asap".

    is this guy for real?!
  • gosh I've been so lucky recently - everyone has turned up and everyone who I've collected from has been so nice. Until today; I offered spices at the weekend - one reply, offered it to him, he didn't reply. Until he turned up tonight. turns out yahoo has a vendetta against me... as he kept getting his emails returned :( I feel so bad as I'd given it to another lady instead.

There have obviously been complaints on our Freegle:

There's something else available for free as well......manners.
I'm surprised at the amount of emails I'm getting in regards to this.
I had one lady tell me that out of over 20 emails, she had one that
was polite. A quick tip to members responding to
offers...... ..impoliteness doesn't get you anywhere. Emails saying
"I'll take it, where are you?", "I can pick it up after work
tomorrow, let me know", "I want it, I can come for it right away",
"Sounds nice, call me" and then add a mobile phone number in there
just to boost your phone bill, just don't cut it with anyone and you
will find yourself ending up with nothing.
This is not to say that we all want pleading emails either
"please, please, please", those are also a no-no as are mentioning
personal details for safety reasons. When offering or responding,
please do not say that you are a single mother alone, you are disabled
etc. Not only do they come under the umbrella of sob stories (unless
you are applying for a disability item), they are also a breach of the
personal safety rules. We would like to think the best of people, but
we really don't know who is sat out there in cyberspace reading our
messages. So when responding, a simple short email such as "my
daughter would love it", "I've wanted one for ages", "mine is broken
and I've been looking for a replacement" is sufficient. No long
stories about why are necessary at all and will just end up with you
getting nothing from the group. Don't forget the please or thank you
    as well.
