  • Know where you're coming from. Some people sound so genuine on first contact then swiftly turn into self-absorbed harpies as soon as you offer to help. Lost count of the number of times I've offered something, selected a recipient, asked them to phone me and got the reply "can you phone me on my mobile cos I've run out of credit". Sheesh!!

    i know **rolls eyes**.

Then you get people who respond to a posted with the same story they gave you a year ago when you offered something (how many times can a baby be re-born??). had my suspicions a while ago they were a car booter (respond to pretty much all my ads) but NOW....!

Hi. We just move in to new appartment with 2 kids age 7 and 5. Need some furniture to set up a room for my boys. Its very nice if we can get a double decker bed due to the small room, small cupboard, small study table, book shelf, shoe rack. Comfort to my boys is our priority. Thank you, cheers. God bless us.

guess these boys lived in shoe boxes previously.....

Then again when it goes well it's great. The other day I listed a few things included a micro scooter and skateboard. Got a lovely email from a lady who subsequently sent her OH round within an hour to collect. He brought his little lad with him who squealed with delight when he saw the micro scooter (his had broken apparently), immediately hopped on it an scooted off up the road. His dad had a huge smile on his face, I had made his son's day. Sometimes it's all worthwhile! :D

Nice lady with young son called to pick up an item from me yesterday. Boy was desperate and asked to use the loo.....would have felt mean saying 'no'. Checked bathroom after they had gone to find he had piddled all over me bathroom floor!

oh don't get me wrong when you get an appreciative person it's fab (like the girl who came this morning) but when you get them turning up (or not) with out so much as a thanks... or in case of 1 asking me for the wrong item... you get a bit

Gorgeous (if I do say so myself), just cooked far too much and I don't think it will freeze. Anyone local fancy it - enough for 4? x

If they have no energy to trim a bamboo plant they won't be able to lift a full, hot Le Crueset cooking pot out of the oven!! Those things weigh a ton even empty!! :rotfl:

That would then be a valid reason to sell it on.

I've offered an old style 14" TV/DVD combi with remote control, immaculate condition on freegle and freecycle and had no takers. You'd have thought someone would be delighted with it.
When TVs go in the corner most of the time, I really do wonder why people "need" a flat screen.
We'd have taken the above for the playroom if I saw it on our group.
