I've used Freecycle a few times when having big clear outs in the house and gave away beds, computers and wardrobes amongst many other kitchen appliances and I must say, most of the people are so ungrateful! Some of them don't even say thank you or don't even seem pleased with it. If you're getting something for free the least you can show is some gratitude!
In future i'll just give it away to charity, last time I'll try to help people out.

When I offer something now, I always look at the requesters' histories and try to offer to those who have given stuff away in the past. Some people only take and, in my experience, it's mostly those who don't say thank you.

We've had some delighted people taking our stuff away - it's a pleasure to see that they're pleased and good to know that our unwanted stuff will be used. Mostly we're giving away things that charity shops wouldn't take so I'm glad we're members of Freegle.

Don't get me wrong, on a couple of occasions I have had people who have been delighted to take it away! I've had a girl take my daughters prom dress as she couldn't afford her own and also a disabled gentlemen took pretty much a whole new kitchen and he was over the moon! I'm glad to help out people like that who actually seem to need it.
I've never really checked what they've done in the past, in future I guess I should start doing that because for all I know the ungrateful people could be selling it on!

Just seen this on one of my local groups:

"Hi. I don't know if this works or not, but it might be worth a punt to someone? It looks ok and is silver."

well is it too much trouble to plug it in and push the on button before someone comes to collect it ??

Or is it that you know it doesn't work but be easier if someone collects from you , then finds out it doesn't work and then they have to take it to the tip ?

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying

When has any sort of tv been a need?
  • Its amazing how many people now 'need' flat tvs as they don't have the space. How did we all manage before - have our houses shrunk?

I've offered an old style 14" TV/DVD combi with remote control, immaculate condition on freegle and freecycle and had no takers. You'd have thought someone would be delighted with it.
  • was just browsing my local freecycle and was slightly taken aback when one post was titled 'wanted house'
