Also I would not recommend an LCD TV over the size of 32” (37” max). This is due to motion smear. Think big think plasma!
Questions to drpope@hotmail.com
The best picture I have seen was a 70" Panasonic LCD. Knocked spots off the plasma's.
The Gadget show did a blind test on flat screen TVs & the LCD ( I think it was a 50" LCD was the best picture.)
Think Plasma think ELECTRIC BILLS. oh! & Gas bills if the screen goes.Nice to save.0 -
I'd say the opinion about lcd's is about a year out of date now. You can get big lcd's which are simply awesome now. There are very few plasmas of any size worth bothering with anymore. TBH, if it's not Pioneer then it's not a good plasma in comparison to what you can get on lcd.0

drpope wrote:I recommend a Panasonic TX32LXD60. This is great value and a great all round winner with 2 HDMI’s and component ports. Best of all if you use his code when you buy from Dixons (online only) you save £50 (perkz50dix)… making the TV a bargain £727 Inc free delivery.
Both my TV's are Panasonic CRT's and they're both very good. Would certainly recommend the brand but I suppose people all ready know their reputation.
drpope, don't you think that unless you have to get a new TV right now it's worth holding on until the majority of broadcasts or substanially more are in HDTV, as by the time that does happen the TV technology is going to be far superior by then and with lower prices?0 -
When I said I recommend plasmas for size I meant as a general guide. You can’t compare today’s technology with that you see at a gadget show etc. For fast movement plasma is a top option and becoming more affordable everyday.
Samsung have developed a 103” LCD…. It takes 45 minutes to come on.
I like LCDs and have an LCD but that’s because a. Value and b. You need a big room for a big TV.
After Xmas the whole HDTV world will be turned on its head. Hold on to your money and get a 1080p set with HDMI 1.3.
I have seen the Aldi 40" working.... it’s nice…. As good as a Panasonic or Sony.... sadly not.
Go for quality not quantity0 -

I know the difference between usb & usb2 of course, however I don't know how the HDMI 1.3 would be better? I watch HD programmes via my Computer onto the 32" Tevion that Aldi did about a year ago & the picture is outstanding. How does being faster help?Nice to save.0 -
HDMI 1.3 is all to do with picture and sound quality and purity. HDMI 1.0 can’t carry 1080p and 5 Channel digital sound.
Also HDMI is a two way connection so it will improve the way two devices can communicate and send data.
I wouldn’t lose sleep over not having it. My posts on here are purely to help people make the right choice for them.0 -
I suppose the advice is to hold on until superior techonolgy comes out, but then there's always superior technology just about to come out so it could be a long wait really.
I've heard Sharp Aquos LCD TVs are supposed to be pretty good? I know, Sharp making something worth spending hundreds of pounds on does seem a bit odd.0 -
Sharp used to make the best lcd's but they represent pretty poor value these days. Top lcd brands are sony, panasonic, toshiba, samsung. In that order in my opinion, but others may differ.0

Keep in mind when thinking of size that Panasonic which is one of the biggest names in TVs in the world has so far not produced an LCD larger than 37" claiming that the quality at these sizes is still unacceptable by their measures.
In other words if you are thinking larger than 37" then think plasma if you believe Panasonic know what they are talking about.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0
