I am one week away from my first year in this property (one bedroom bungalow) so am looking for a cheaper supplier if possible though i must say I have been pleased with Equipower for service and price.
Up till now my gas consumption for 51 weeks is 192 units @ 2.430p per kWhwhich at a very loose estimate is £154 or £13 a month and electricity is 1374 kWhs @ 9.31p or about £128 or £10 a month which is less than average use.
I gave up my electric cooker last year and use a Remoska which is saving me, and I heat only half the bungalow at night in winter.
I am looking forward to knocking off a bit more from £23 a month. I just bought a new FF which uses less juice so here's to an even cheaper year.
blimey- how on earth have you kept it so low??
and as for the electric? are you sure that is right?? £10 a month for that much electric.0 -

If you are a low user and are paying less than £30 a month then you will struggle to find a better deal than Equi Power and Equi Gas who you are with. My mum lives in a one bedroomed flat and is with them and pays just £20 a month. It really is amazing how little you can use if you are careful. Don't waste any time looking for a better deal, you won't find one.

There are some people who can work out the best deals for you, however the easiest way is to check out some of the comparison sites. I find the best two are:

Well for one thing, I have a new combi boiler, but basically it is just being careful. I keep my rinsed dishes in a bowl and wash them once a day, only heating enough water for one bowlful and half a bathroom sink of water to get washed in switching it off before the taps run cold. I use my washing machine once every two weeks, I bathe once a week, and use the radiator thermostats to only heat the rooms I am using and as I have CFS, I go to bed very early so only heat the bedroom/bathroom for a couple of hours. The water is off when not in use, I do not leave it on.
As I said, I do not use a large cooker and have instead a

which not only saves a fortune, actually makes the food taste better and cooks quicker.
I also have an induction ring

which saves a lot of electricity. Everything I buy I make sure it uses less power. All lightbulbs are low energy and only used for occupied rooms. I switch off my computer when not in use, and leave no standbys on if not using. I charge my phone then switch it off. I fill a flask with hot drinks and it lasts all day.
It is just a matter of being careful.

Thanks for that. I did doubt whether I could find cheaper, but might spend just 10 mins to make sure. I would change to save even £2, I am so stingy!
Water meter getting installed next week so savings there too.0 -

Hi, I'm new to this so go with me
I dont know if this has happened to anyone else, or how to get out of it but I switched to powergen some time ago now for both gas and electricity and I also changed to their online system for cheaper bills. They were charging me £46.00 per month which I thought was quite cheap, but even though I was sending regular meter readings they were totally ignoring them and sending out estimated bills instead. Today I received a letter saying my bill was now over £1300 in debt and they were going to take £405 a month to pay back the arrears. I phoned and told them there was no way I could pay this and a hundred pounds a month was as much as I could afford but the only advice they could give me was to get a prepayment meter, which surely is going to cost me more...............Help0 -

baggs, thats the downside of paying by dd, and yes you will be paying more through a pre-payment meter, i myself would talk to the citizens advice and see wot they could do to help you, But dont have a pre-payment meter put in because you will find out that for every £10 you put in you will be lucky to get £5 worth of elect in return for the £10 because they will set it high to get their money back, I myself prefer having a quartely bill so i know wot i have used and the right price to pay, i know you dont save by having a quartely bill but its less stressfull than dd payments.0

When you send Powergen your meter readings every 90 days they should generate a new bill within 2 or 3 days which you can then check online. I did this several times as their estimated readings for me were rather on the high side. In the event of them not generating a new bill based on your customer readings, a call to their freephone number would have put things right. They do have a bad habit of getting their estimated reading very wrong. If, like you say they have ignored the readings you sent them and this is evidenced in your online account, you may wish to make a complaint to Ofgem.
I have just left Powergen at the end of my capped rate period and joined Scottish Power Online. See my previous post on 28/9/07 regarding a very misleading letter that Powergen sent me.

Have gas and electric with BG and SP so decided to switch to BG for duel fuel. Nice earner through quidco of 60 pounds and think we will be a lot better off in the long term.
£80 now. Very tempting although gambling on the casback as would be no better off than my current supplier.0
