  • Got a letter from Scottish Power yesterday, telling me prices went up in FEBRUARY.
BUT should I be really quick on my mouse, I had 10 days to notify cancellation of my contract provided I could scuttle off to a new supplier within 15 days.

I'm expecting that the letter should not have been sent to me, because I am on the "Price Fall" contract.

    We will see.

    Hello Guys

I need a bit of help.

    1) Will I be allowed to switch from my existing standard tariff to Online tariff (Online 12 ) in Npower within the same provider for dual fuel.(this save me about £500 annually)

    2) Once I am on the tariff will company allow me to fix my tariff the way it is right now for existing customers

    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

How did you get a figure of a £500pa saving?

To get that you must have a spend of £thousands

I put into NPower's own website(for my postcode) a huge consumption of 3 times the UK average(9,900kWh electricity and 61,500kWh gas) on standard tariff and paying quarterly. The savings were much less than £500.
  • I pay them about 85 a month , i think it is about 31 for electricity and about 44 for gas.
They say it will be review but already that has cost me a lot of money only to get £80 at the year end for being loyal to them.
I think i fill out that much amount in online quote and get that figure which is just under 500 a year.

You can change to the online tariff with Npower (although they may say its for new customers only if you call them direct, seems to be a matter of who you speak to)

And no, you cant fix at that price, their fixed price tariff is significantly more expensive and only fixed til july next year (although it does come with free boiler cover! Whoopie!)
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

£85 a month is about the UK average at £1,020 pa (incidentally £31 and £44 is £75 not £85)

There is no way you are going to cut your bills by 50% by going on line. Particularly as you already pay by DD.

In fact as indicated above you might find that on the fixed price tariff you will be actually paying more.

That said it is obviously worth going for a 'normal' on-line account as there will be some good savings.

The only way you can find out what savings you are likely to make by changing to on-line with NPower, or moving to another company, is to enter your exact annual consumption in kWhs. Entering monthly DD is pointless

    Please could someone advise us regarding the following scenario;
My mum has been with British Gas for several years and I suggested she swap to another supplier......we found Npower to be the cheapest for her area. We asked to transfer and had the new contracts through from Npower. Mum was paying by direct debits and it seems she overpaid last year and her payments were reduced this year. So, in our estimation she is up to date.......however, British Gas are now saying she owes them more money for last year and are now saying they will stop the transfer! I have made endless phone calls to British Gas and seem to get no joy apart from ever increasing phone bill and a hint of sarcasm from their staff!
Npower has said that the final meter reading will be given to British Gas for the final bill to be issued accordingly. They have given the transfer date as end of the month. Mum is happy with this, but it seems British Gas are not! Can British Gas stop the transfer now?
Please advise as mum is getting very frustrated and is put off the whole transfer process so much so that she wants to remain with British Gas to save the hassle! Many thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!
  • Hello

I am a novice to all this and find it quite confusing so please bear with me, I currently paying approx £10.00 per week on my electric meter and between £5.00 - £20.00 per week on gas (depending on summer / winter) . I have heard a lot about imminent increases and wondered if I was better off sticking with who Im with or if I should change supplier and method i.e change from prepaid to direct debit ?. Any advise and assistance would be appreciated. Cheers !

BG can stop the transfer until their account has been settled, whether or not BG are owed money or not is between your mother and BG, nobody on here can comment on that as we dont have the facts and figures.

Thru this site and Pipeline Card I have had a quote from Utility Warehouse but as they are not included on any of the comparison sites I find it very difficult to decide whether they are cheaper. I opted for Scottish Power Fixed Price Energy 2009 with a standing charge.
