If you are thinking of DIY toner refills be aware that we have had health and safety warnings at work about this. Apparently laser toner is quite dangerous because it's composed of some sort of nanoparticle that is much smaller than skin pores so can get into your body if not handled properly. In particular there is an inhalation risk.I ♥ MSE0

printed a 50 page document today, and the roller at the top started to issue wispy smoke. I know it says it can get hot when printing, but smoke ??
anyone else had similar experiences ?
Its not smoke , its steam. your paper is probably damp (but not so you would notice) and as it comes through the hot fuser rollers the water in the paper turns to steam. If your paper is damp it will probably curl at the edges as well.

dermotp wrote:I have an earlier Samsung, the ML1210, which has been a great workhorse. I was keen to purchase this bargain - but Comet won't deliver to Northern Ireland. Grrr!
I'm in the same position but ended up visiting the Dixons site and saw they do a price promise (and they deliver to NI). Emailed and was sent a code to buy the printer for £45.94 (same as comet price) delivered. The code did play up and kept trying to charge me £45.94 + £9.99 for delivery. A call to the Dixons orderline and explained the problem, operator talked to supervisor and I was told I could indeed have it for £45.94 delivered. That was Tuesday afternoon and it arrived today - excellent service from Dixons. :T
Now I don't know if they were just being nice giving it to me for that price or whether they didnt realise it was for N.Ireland or what, I'm sure they could argue that because Comet don't deliver to NI it's not a like for like comparison and refuse to match the price. On the other hand I think the printer must've been delivered from within NI considering it only took 2 days so it's no skin off their nose delivery price wise really, they probably sent it from a Currys or PC World store.0 -

However, a quick search on Ebay found a pack of 2 refill kits at under £13
including the postage (Buy it now price)
Has anyone else experienced these refills, are they any good?

The link below doesn't list the Samsung ml1610 but as it does list a few, might be useful for othersbob_a_builder wrote:Can someone post a picture/good description of where you melt the hole to pour in the toner on the ml-1610 cartridge - Thanks

On the front of your refill you will see two top screws(one each side)remove these.Take off top and you can refill. You may want to remove the other two screws on the silver bar and prise up this also. Not sure about melting the hole though.
As for the refills.Don't get ripped off. These are as low as £3.76 each if you buy 10 on Ebay.Or
£5 each inc postage for at least two.0 -
Thanks, I have already purchased toner from RefillToner
But it seems that Starter cartridged does not have the 'bung' hole of the stardard cart and one of the methods is to melt hole in case to pour in and re-seal, I'd prefer to avoid disassembly
Lots of instruction for other samsung models about, but tend to avoid specifics of 1610 model
Link here to infor about starter cart
"Brand new toner! Yield is 2000 nominal 5% coverage. This is sized for the 1610 cartridge and is two thirds of the 2010 cartridges. Specific instructions included. The starter cartridges do not have a filler cap. Use the "Melt hole and pour" fill method"0 -
