Sounds like you may need to take the plunge (no pun intended) and stick your hand down there. I had to do it once when DS decided to try and flush his bath toy. I just covered my arm in a bin bag as suggested above. Goodluck hope you can get it cleared without any huge plumber bills :-)

Empty some of the water out so the pan doesn't overflow when you put the 'plunger' in - sorry. Put a polythene bag over the head of a mop and use this as a plunger. You might have to plunge a few times but this should clear the blockage.

    Good luck

Right this is what I did and it works!
I found it on the net one night when NOTHING would unblock the toilet; wrap the mop head in a bin bag so its like a giant black cotton bud and use that as a plunger! I guarantee in about 10 plunges it will work!
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

    I second the plunger method.

I threw the plunger away afterwards _pale_

    Hi all

Thanks for the replies everyone, sorry, OH took over the PC to look for solutions and I fell asleep while he was on it!

I left the denture tablet/Cillit Bang combo in the toilet all night - just flushed it this morning and the water rose up to the top of the bowl aaaargh! But then I came back ten minutes later and it had gone down again, so I must have cleared a small path through the blackage.

Bronnie - I do know what it is and it's not loo roll, like I said it was me who blocked it (:o:o:o:o). p.s. I was going to post it on the toiletry challenge thread knowing that you're on there late at night, but thought that the toiletry girls might never forgive me lol.

Anyway, OH says that caustic soda seems to be popular from what he's seen. Where would you buy that - would Teaco sell it or would I have to go to a hardware shop??? Will get some on the way home from work and try again.

Thanks again to all, will keep you posted (Femme456!).

Caustic soda will not work if there is a solid object in there like a sanitary towel (I assume this is what we are talking about). You will not be able to dissolve it!!!
Sorry but you will have to remove it yourself or get a plumber in if you cant reach it. Bin bag over the arm sounds favourite.

I wouldnt worry about the plumber I expect they have seen it all before.
