The Op is not letting the taxpayer pay her! She does not receive any money.

    So why claim JSA?

If its not for income, or NI credits, both of which are payments for their benefit, what on earth are they claiming for, and what type of JSA does not pay anything at all, not even NI credits?

    Im lost?

Don't worry about cit_k; he's got a bit of a grudge against me and is having a go at you because of the advice I gave you.

    You have a vivid imagination.

I am claiming JSA because I have to sign on every 2 weeks so I can get my insurance paid to me. Also, they continue to pay my NI credits I am told, which is important.

I am not entitled to income based JSA because of my insurance, I am not entitled to contributions based, because I haven't contributed enough.

I have been honest thank you very much. I told them I wasn't planning on giving up college, and that was left at that.

I wasn't talking about the forms.

I was talking about if you were at college and it was very important to you, you could work any hours apart from 10 hrs in a week. You are saying you would give it all up because the job centre staff advised you to?

    No backbone there then.

I will fight for what I want. If I have to bend the rules slightly then I will. They don't pay me JSA. My insurance, that I paid for will be supporting me.

Get off your high horse and drop into the real world.

Real world is bending the rules slightly is still a criminal act...

And im suprised that advice is being given out and condoned on the forum..

If I was in that situation, I would have to chose one or the other, not bend the rules, which is fraud, and could lead to a criminal conviction..

The DWP wont care about motive, or if your human, if they could get someone on a technicality, they would...

Its not fair, its not nice, but thats how they operate.

    GEEGEE8,

I am with you all the way on this one. If, for example, someone makes a claim for JSA and states that they are prepared to work from 8.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday but not at night or at weekends then presumably this is acceptable. But in your case, you are prepared to work anytime at all- evenings, nights, weekends, public holidays etc and you are informed that this is not acceptable as you have only made yourself unavailable for a ten hour period in the week, then I think you should take this to appeal as you have not made an unreasonable claim which prohibits you from working..

The OP has answered this already in the thread. The only conceivable benefit that is obtaining from the government in claiming JSA is the notional payment of N.I. credits. But this is very debatable as it only counts towards the retirement pension and it only necessary to have thirty years contributions or credits to claim the basic retirement pension. The thirty years are very likely to be covered by the OP during her lifetime, but even if they were not for some unlikely reason she would be entitled to pension credit to bring her retirement income up to a basic level - and of course pension credit does not depend upon N.I. credits.

I can only reiterate the OP does not receive any personal benefit from the taxpayer by claiming JSA.

    Thank you terryw.. :)

& yes, I can work any other hours, I can work 50 hrs a week if I have to, not a problem.

Glad 'most' people seem to have seen sense.

I told Job centre admin woman, she was the one that was funny with me. The actual advisor I see was fine, wrote it down that I couldn't do monday's, so I think she was being realistic. Whether they would enforce it or not later on I'm not sure, hopefully I will have another job by then and can be back in the real world where hard work and dedication makes you a better person!

They said if a suitable job comes up I'll have to give up my college course that is 1 day a week.

I was fuming, I told them that if that's the case I'd cancel JSA and live off my income insurance.

I have about 7 weeks of college left this year and no way would I give it up, it's my only hope of getting a good job one day.

I am doing an ONC in civil engineering and attend college 1 day a week for 10 hrs. The fact that I can work at any other time should be enough.

Jeez... am I wrong? I already worked 40 hrs a week in retail all of the college year so far, so I'm not being unreasonable.. :o

Ive not been signed on for JSA for a goods 4/5 years now but like you I was told a had 2 give up my 1 day a week college course if a suitable job came up. In the end a job didnt come up so I got to finish my course but I used to get very upset after coming away from jobcentre as some of the advisors there make you feel so bad and unworthy! Lucky I found a job by myself which was only a temp contract but instead of signing back on I found another job within weeks and I have been there and 4 years. Im now ready to move on but Im not going back to the jobcentre I will stay put until another job comes my way! Good luck everyone!
