Hmmm.. the uni tutor emailed me back.
Dear Gemma
You'll need to apply through UCAS. Full details at www.ucas.ac.uk

Not much help there then. I asked whether my qualifications would be enough or not and whether I would be ready for the HND.

you need to find the right dept
eg in Edinburgh Uni its the Dept. for life long learning checking for credit for entry (for old duffers) but for younger students then something in admissions probably
just find the right dept and give em a call or email or whatever.usually very helpfu0 -
Madness, your not allowed to finish college but I'm allowed to do voluntary work?
I never get bored of finding out these sometimes daft rules LOL
I haven't read all the posts because i was so angry i just had to post, so sorry if i'm repeating anything. Not necessarily angry at the post i quote just the whole way the post was going. You have to be prepared to give up college, or voluntary work if i job comes up. In other words, you can't tur a job down in favour of doing voluntary work or doing a day a week at college. If you want to coninue doing either you can negotiate the time with your new employer but you can't say " no i can't take the job - i work in a charity shop / go to college on monday". This is JOB SEEKERS ALLOWANCE after all. Not a student allowance and not an "i'll work voluntarily and let the taxpayer pay me" allowance..0 -

The Op is not letting the taxpayer pay her! She does not receive any money."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

OP instead of asking the tutor, YOU need to identify the course that you want to do, research it (website/prospectus) check the entry requirements to see whether or not you have the right qualifications for that course and then apply for it if you have.
As for the second question - are you ready for the HND - only you can answer that. I suspect the tutor was politely saying that you need to answer these questions for yourself.0 -
I'll ignore the poster who couldn't be bothered to read the thread.
I have looked at the UCAS requirement, it's 100 points.
I have 11 GCSE's Grade B/C Including English B/B, Science B/B, Maths C.
I have been studying the National Certificate in Civil Engineering, if I left after the first year I would get the National Award.
The UCAS site says that for the National Award you get 80 points for Merit, 120 for Disctinction.
I do 6 different subjects, I am guessing I will get half Merit, half Distinction.
I do have experience of working with my dad in construction, so I think that will help me.
I also got through to the final stage of a job with the Environment Agency, where they pay you to work and pay you to do your degree. Not heard back from them yet, but I'm not counting on it as it was quite a tough selection.9/70lbs to lose

With those qualifications I think it would be well worth your while applying, particularly if they have vacancies still at this stage. Apart from the few quid you pay to UCAS and the time spent doing an application, you have little to lose and can always back out, even at the last minute, if you are offered a suitable job.
If you do decide to go down this road, even as a backup, make sure you also apply for the student funding (I think the deadline is mid June) or else you'll have no money when the course starts.
Good luck in your jobhunting and, if you want any help with your UCAS personal statement, send me a pm.0 -
Thanks ever so much.
I am at college on Monday and I'm going to speak to my tutor about it. I'm sure she needs to write something for me.
I did start the UCAS application yesterday, so I will just continue with that. Still not sure how I'm going to get enough money each month, but I'm sure there would be part time jobs etc.
The lady I phoned said there were still places on the course, so fingers crossed.9/70lbs to lose
