In your situation, people just say that they're prepared to give up college if a suitable job comes along.

Play the game by the rules and don't worry about it.

You mean lie on the jobseekers agreement? Commit benefit fraud? tut tut Older..

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

I don't think it's lying, who knows what position I will be in after 2 months unemployed, I might be willing to give up college.. :(

Otherwise, I'm available to work at any other time during the week/weekends apart from 10 hrs. I don't think that is unreasonable at all.

I will tell them I would be willing to quit college, in all fairness, I don't think many people would be happy with themselves with forcing someone to give up their education.

Don't forget, I won't even be claiming JSA, as I have Income protection insurance. I got this to protect my income and to ensure I can stay at college should the worst happen.

Come on, I've been sensible as far as possible.. a little 'playing the system' to benefit myself isn't that bad is it? How would you feel if it was you?

Bearing in mind also that I was made redundant, I didn't want to lose my job.

True, if the job centre are being a pain, its not fair, the DWP rarely are :(

But if you say you are prepared to leave, and your not... Then that is fraud..

What would happen if a miracle happened, and they offered you a position in a few days time, starting next week say?

Would you leave college? Or turn the job down? Or do badly at interview on purpose?

I don't know what I'd do.. I'd have to speak to my tutor and try and work from home as best I could.

It's not fraud, come off it.. I'm just trying to work around 1 day! 1 day! I think if you class that as fraud then that is pretty sad.

I don't think I can turn a job down, I would ask about college at the interview and see what they say..? What more can I do really..

I'm not getting any help really, my insurance will be my income, just pee'd off that I have to jump hoops when I've applied to all sorts of jobs.

Push come to shove? I'd probably take the job and try and book college days off as holiday or something..

Next year I'd probably have to do Open Uni instead, if I were in the same position.

I won't leave college this year, I have 7 weeks left, I've been working 40 hrs a week, and doing college 10 hrs on top for college, since September last year.

I ask you again, what would you do?

Also, I secured an interview for a job before even stepping foot inside the job centre, and I have a 2nd interview on monday.. they know about college and are happy to work around it. I'm willing to work at weekends, so a day off in the week is fine with them. Fingers crossed I get it and I can put all this mess behind me..

& I'm not having a go btw, I'm just suprised that some people are 'reading from the rule book' and not seeing that I am a human being, I have worked hard and want to continue to work hard.
I want a job where I have good prospects and not just work in retail. I feel that the government should commend this a lot more than they apparently do.

Don't worry about cit_k; he's got a bit of a grudge against me and is having a go at you because of the advice I gave you.

    Oh I see.

Well, I have emailed the tutor for the HND course.

I have been given a 2nd interview on Monday for a retail job that know I have college.

All is looking up. Altho I am very interested in the whole Uni in September. I will speak to my tutor on Monday and see what she says.

Busy day Monday, College, JSA in lunch break, Job Interview at 5pm.. Nothing else the rest of the week tho! Typical lol

I'm sure you will be applying for jobs for the rest of the week (it is a busy task in itself if you do it correctly btw).
