Thanks guys... I've applied to uni, well, just have the personal statement and reference to sort out. Going to have a word with my tutor tomorrow and see what she suggests.

I've applied for student finance too.

Fingers crossed. I was going to leave it til next year because I was scared of whether I could support myself full time at uni. My sister has been on the phone, and between her, my boyfriend, my best friend etc they have all convinced me that i will be in the same position next year regarding suporting myself, so I may aswell try for this year.

Sorry to bump this thread up...

I had this exact problem before I even went to college.

I was on one of the new deal "training schemes" (I say that loosely as all I did while I was there was play cards... I'm a mean poker player now!) which the job centre made me go on even though they knew I was going back to college that year. I was already working part time which made it even more pointless. I asked whether they could do anything about it when I started college in september to which I was told "if you don't attend, your benefits will be stopped." Fair enough. But then they told me I had to go part time after college to which I blankly refused. When exactly would they expect me to get any work done?

So I stopped signing on. Luckily enough, I was still making music for my friends so I seem to have earned more money this past 8 months than I ever did whilst I was working...

And don't worry about financial aspects at uni. While you are there, that's the least of your worries. There is plenty of part time jobs knocking around that are aimed at students and, if your lucky, you may even get on the university radio station if you are confident enough for that.

Hey there - Killers fan? Me too.. :)

I think the job centre should really try to encourage college studies, if you can still work a clear 6 days a week, then it's just stupid to suggest to give it up.

Glad you have got through it..

Worst thing is, I won't get Job seekers allowance as I have my insurance, but I still have to sign on for insurance purposes.. arrghh..

In these bad times, you would think they would let people go to college. It's your choice. Someone isn't making it for you so they should support that choice. I did an access course and it has hit me financially (so much that I had to go and get myself debt free... Then the day after the cow asked for the fees to be paid )

Sadly, it's all about the statistics. The more people they can get on these courses skews the unemployment statistics and the hidden (students) unemployment rates. It was ever so convenient last september when they were on about the unemployment statistics going down... Couldn't that have something to do with students going to college/university?

Yeah I'm a killers fan. Can not wait for Brandon's solo album. I've heard it's going to be very different!

Yeah, it's very harsh of them. There should at least be a rule that let's you finish out the year if you can prove that you have worked full time around the course previously.

It is statistics yeh, just hope they don't play havoc with me, I'm just not in the mood for it.

Solo album! awesome, I'm a bit out of the loop with music at the moment, I will look out for that tho. :D
