Was going to post back here today anyway, got the letter from Powergen this morning to give me advance warning that they are putting up my rates as from 21st August ?!?!?!?
Surely that is very bad practice (bordering of fraud) to onloy notify me now a week after they have upped the prices which a) doesn't give me chance to switch to someone else before the rises and b) doesn't give me chance to take readings before the increase! Any thoughts?!??

Yes, thats extremely shoddy....after all they've known of the increase for a while......I would take a reading now, to avoid them overcharging you.
I haven't had my letter yet.0 -
I found this page handy to see who is likely to be next to raise their prices ...........

This is confusing; does Powergen put their up rates on the 21st August or 6th September? I too use their energy online tariff, and I agree that the increase is nearer 46%, but I haven't received any communication from them by post or e-mail.
Easy to see that Powergen users are going to have to jump ship, but which vessel should we land on. They take it in turns to announce huge increases, it seems whichever way we decide, we'll end up drowning!0 -

That's a really good link Bassman - just sums up a complete fix the whole industry is. Countrywide Energy have got their act together; 69.8% increase in February 2006, followed by a 27.4% reduction the following month. Where's the regulator in all this lot? Sitting back eating his sandwiches - that's where he is! Or maybe he only came in during March to sort out Countrywide Energy

Just to clarify, I am on the "Standard" tariff and according to the letter I got today (and I got a copy of the same letter addressed to someone else) the increase for me was on 21st August.
I have e-mailed a complaint to them about getting the letter after the increase.
Is there minimum terms you have to stay with a company when you switch? Or could you feasibly swap every week?
Is it easy to swap companies?!?!

I don't think there is a minimum term, although it could take up to 28 days to complete the switch.......If you use one of the comparison sites to switch....they apparently, do all the work for you, I think your questions will possibly answered in the comparison sites faq's. And if you take all your own readings when you switch, this would prevent overcharging...0
