I know mate, they are w@n#£*$!!!!!

Just phoned them up to see if I could get the old capped rates before the price rise but of course the sneaky buggars have already bumped their capped rates up too!!

"So it would be a waste of time then" I say

"Not really, it would protect you from further rises until April 2007"

"If they go up again before April 2007 after this rise i'll be off to live on the moon!!!"

So I have got all their rates for anyone who is interested:

    Elec

    Current Standard Tarriff:
Up to 225 units = 14.543 pence per unit
Over 225 units = 8.894 pence per unit

Current Standard Tarriff after price rise:
Up to 225 units = 16.74 pence per unit
Over 225 units = 10.05 pence per unit

    Current Capped Tarriff:
Up to 225 units = 17.189 pence per unit
Over 225 units = 10.605 pence per unit

    Gas:

    Current Standard Tarriff:
Up to 1143 units = 3.156 pence per unit
Over 1143 units = 2.51 pence per unit

Current Standard Tarriff after price rise:
Up to 1143 units = 3.737 pence per unit
Over 1143 units = 2.972 pence per unit

    Current Capped Tarriff:
Up to 225 units = 4.07 pence per unit
Over 225 units = 3.236 pence per unit

I wouldn't have thought from looking at those prices that it would be worth switching to the capped tarriff. These increases will be the 2nd lot this year so I doubt (although what do I know) that they will increase again before April 2007.

Not sure about whether to switch though because only been in current house for 7 weeks so haven't got a bill to compare costs of our usage between companies.

We're not on capped rates, but still on a good deal as we are (currently) with the cheapest supplier for us, though the rate we are on is not available to new customers, we're with EDF (was SWEB) so are on a pre-oct 2005 tariff (was pre-mar 05 before the last increase on this tariff) if we were to switch to Powergen we would be £157 per year worse off and that was before this last increase.

I'm sure EDF will increase the tariff we are on soon, but we have still saved money by not paying extra for a capped tariff, wonder if it's worth taking the risk again and not taking a capped tariff, I think it probably is.

That is for your area - bear in mind that electricity prices vary across the country according to the region you live in.

Thank goodness we've just moved away from Powergen to EBICO.

Their prices will probably rise next!

We were on the pre October 2005 tariff (the online one) but they put the prices up recently, sometime in July. I was under the impression that the price was rising for all of their tariffs. There was a thread on here about it when they anounced it.

Yeah the Pre-Oct 05 (online) tariff did go up, but they are still almost £80 a year cheaper for us, than the next cheapest ebico.

On pre-Oct 2005, you are paying less than those on pre-April 2006 and those less than ones signed up afterwards.

If you are on the pre-Oct 2005 EDF (SWEB/LE) tariff then switching away will mean at least a 13% increase in the price you pay.

If you are on the pre-April 2006 EDF (SWEB/LE) tariff then switching away will mean at least a 4% increase in the price you pay.

It's only those who signed up to EDF after April 2006 that will save by switching away, you can save 5% by switching to ebico, if you are on pre-Oct 05 or pre-April 06 then it's not wise to switch away as you will be paying more.

I just switched to Powergen online too. :( I instigated the switch in May, on MSE Martin's advice, and just got it sorted last month. I just checked on the comparison website and now I can't work out what to do. I haven't even sent the first meter reading to Powergen yet, so feel it's a bit soon to switch again. I'll read the meter this weekend though. On a more optimistic note, my previous supplier has just refunded my credit balance for the second time, so at least the switch was worth it! ;)
