  • I only switched to Powergen in May too, and have jist had my first bill, which I was actually quite pleased with. Won't be pleased with the next one though. Think I'll go with equipower.

Scottishpower, who I was with before sent me a final bill for £445  for one month, which I queried. I sent them a meter reading for May and got a bill for £76 .84 which I paid. They've now sent me another bill for £0.54 (!) , they've used February's reading I queried it, they said it's correct, and have sent me a refund for £76.30 :T

"this is gettin ridiculous, surely energywatch or someone should start and take some action"

These ridiculous and frequent double-digit percentage increases really do need investigating. They are becoming so predictable now that the cynics amongst us suspect anti-competitive practices. Especially as they mentioned on the radio today, that Powergen have just announced healthy profits!

I'm amazed the government allows these hikes. It just sits back and choruses "free market" and expects all consumers to buy in. There's something very suspicious about how the operators take it in turn to announce massive increases. Government won't act until some pensioners actually freeze to death, and even then, I wonder!

Yeah, I heard Powergen profits had increased due to inflated wholesale gas prices.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I got an estimated bill from Powergen dated 31st July, it was very low, good I thought, till I read the meter and found the reading was almost double what they had estimated. Now they used to have a phone number where you could phone you meter reading but that isn't on the bill anymore. Tried to phone but the numbner was constantly engaged so e-mailed them with the reading, which they acknowledged on 4th August. As I haven't been sent a revised bill I phoned them this morning and they told me that they don't issue a new bill unless the reading is less that the bill. So that means the underpayment will be charged at the new rate. What a con! I told them I wasn't happy with this and that I wanted to pay what I owe now. They insisted they weren't able to do that. After a rather heated debate I was told I should phone them the meter reading the day before the rate goes up and they will charge me two rates. I think I got them to agree that they will send me a revised bill now, but I'll believe it when I see it.

It won't be long before I change from Powergen.

Although I'm quite pleased to be in the process of switching from Powergen to Ebico I still expect them to increase their prices soon.

The people making a stack of money from all the confusion in energy prices is the companies that are telling you to switch.
They get a fat fee for everyone that switchies via their sites.
It is in their interest to ALWAYS find you a better deal.

No problem, let them find you a better deal and then go through Quidco or someone else so YOU get the cashback, not them!!

Phoned Pgen today and was told that the energy online price rise takes effect from 6th Sept. and everyone should receive a letter by then outlining the new rates.
