Wow- been offline as I was at WORK (yes i have a weekend job and work unsociable hours - as a freelance chef) but will try to answer a few (attacks) questions........

So - I would personally be interested to see how old O.P. is and what work conditions they were so eager to accept (ie are they acceptable ones?).

Yes acceptable- on my terms through which after reading this thread may seen unacceptable to some of the people on here that see themselves above certain work- heaven forbid one break a nail or work ''unsocialble hours''
The job happens to be as a catering manager, hours 8am - 3.30pm which suits me as I can continue my own business in the afternoon and evening......

What job did you get? Wiping bums in a care home, cleaning the streets, packing ham rolls in a factory...because it wouldnt be a good job in that time span.

Even if you did there must be something wrong with the job as they would appear desperate.

    :rotfl:

This is a disgusting response for so many reasons!! Mainly because it appears that you look down on people that do such jobs, let me remind you that these are all jobs that need someone to do them and where would you be without them?!?! Do you like dirty streets? Do you eat prepackaged food?!? Lets hope you never need the help of a nurse in hospital!!

This is the issue - people are too proud to do jobs that they see as beneath them. In many cases they have neither the qualifications or experience to get anything better. If god forbid I had to claim JSA I'd much rather take one of these kind of jobs than languish at home waiting for the 50k job to materialise.

Which was exactly my point of the thread- thank you.

There are jobs, the problem is that whilst people have delusions of grandeur they would rather be spoon fed a wage then get their fingers dirty.

Lots of very testy posts from those whom I assume (which i admit is a risky thing to do!) are on JSA in this thread, maybe spend a little less time on the forum and a little more time jobhunting.........?

Oh , and forgot to add, nothing ''wrong'' with the job, they are not desperate, but I was offered it on the spot as I am a good chef with lots of leisure industry managerial experience. Thats all.

Some people spend their working lives building up a portfolio of skills that will make them employable in most situations whereas others do the opposite. For the second group to call the first group "lucky" is a bit of an insult.

'That's all' All very casually worded but still managing to 'crow'.

Makes me feel the purpose of OP posting on here was not to spread some 'good news' and add something positive, a ray of hope, but to dig and stir, and have a little boast. Makes me feel I omitted the word 'humility' from my first post on this thread.

Well done! Best of luck with the new job.

I've also got a job now! (Since posting on this thread earlier on today.) Had an interview this morning at Debenhams and got offered the job this evening. It's only a sales advisor position. And only part time. But it's a job, it's money and it's interacting with real people! I'm quite excited :)

    Congratulations!! Enjoy!!

Is there really any need to be so sarcastic I doubt "breaking a nail" features highly on the list for those living on JSA.
Also the fact you are already have a job running your own business puts you in better position to be able to take a job simply because it fits in with your hours rather than being your sole income.

    Totally agree!

There has been ONE job which you have been fortunate enough to get, Why can you not accept you have been able to get that job (which perhaps some other poor souls didn't get and will be left languishing on JSA) and not insist that this means there are jobs for everyone?

Lots of very testy posts from those whom I assume (which i admit is a risky thing to do!) are on JSA in this thread, maybe spend a little less time on the forum and a little more time jobhunting.........?

I am not on JSA, as it happens I work doing a job that others would think beneath them (as a nurse). However I have experienced the stress of my husband being out of work for approx 6mths, this was nearly 2 yrs ago when redundancies were really kicking in and there literally was no jobs (Belfast Telegraph stopped printing a jobfinder section for a few weeks as there was none to be advertised).

I am extremely proud of my husband for finding a minimum wage job in a nursing home, something which took him way out of his comfort zone and so far away from the factory/production work he had always done. He also got this job (did I mention min wage?) after they had narrowed down the 40+ applicants and he completed 3 interviews, including doing a "plan of action" to show what he intended to do each week.

Please remember you have a "trade" as a chef, you have lots of experience in an area that typically will always be looking for workers (people need to eat!) I am very pleased that you found a job to supplement your income, but there really is no need to gloat!

I guess the main point is not to judge others, not to make sweeping statements about life styles, the availability of work, family responsibliites, health, recruitement procedures, locations, travelling etc etc. I have a new job, could not start until three references were submitted, and an enhanced CRB check had been done. I applied in December, was interviewed in Febuary and began work in April. I am going back to work after a long period of ill health, I lost my last job due to illness and my post only being short term funded (employer forgot to mention that when I was recruited!). I personally find some of the spite, bile and narrow mindeness on this forum pretty unpleasant.

Ok, so my own business is doing as well as can be expected in the reciession but i decided for some extra income to get a extra job.

Started seaching Thurs morning, had a few interviews yesterday, start work first thing Monday..........

So am I missing something? Why does JSA exist again?!?

I suspect it has something to do with you living under 20 miles from Central Manchester.
Considering the lack of comprehension you exhibit regarding the economic situation of the rest of the country I can only assume there are a huge abundance of jobs in your region that even you get employed so quickly.

Where I live I have friends with postgraduate degrees approaching their first year of unemployment. They apply for absolutely anything and do work part time hours (some 50 miles from home!) but full time is very hard to come by.

    Methinks one assumes too much.
Not so. He did drugs in his past. He now has a wife and 1 kid aged 1 years old.

He is the black sheep of the family and as far as im concerned he is not my brother.

And he should be commended for seemingly turning his life around.

As for being the 'Black Sheep', it is quite possible that HE may have disassociated himself from YOU and does not wish to be related to you -although it would seem that there is no great loss on his part. Unfortunately, you cannot choose your family!
