Am I missing something? Getting a job is easy!!

Ok, so my own business is doing as well as can be expected in the reciession but i decided for some extra income to get a extra job.

Started seaching Thurs morning, had a few interviews yesterday, start work first thing Monday..........

So am I missing something? Why does JSA exist again?!?

Because unfortunately society is packed full of wasters who think they are better than they are and expect to be paid a great wage for nothing.

As you say if you make the effort and are not a complete numpty there is no reason a job can't be found in a few weeks maximum as long as you dont have false pretences about your place.

It took me 4 months to get a job last time I was looking. Even Tesco night shift turned me down :(

I wasn't getting JSA so that wasn't impacting on my decision to get one, I really wanted one asap.

I'm not very good at interviews though - I get too nervous and turn into a bit of a blurter :(

Depends what kind of job, the location and the hours were that you applied for.

    "So am I missing something?"

Perhaps a modicum of 'sensitivity'... ??

Yes but for someone on JSA the type of job and hours shouldnt be an issue. If they are claiming they are seeking work (allegedly) and should take anything offered.

Location is a slight issue but people should be willing to be flexible. I am not talking 100 miles or that but travelling 30/40 miles for a job when your desperate should be reasonable.

So someone should sign off JSA if they know of a job for 6 hours a week and that is 30 miles away from where they live?

Because benefits are so high - particularly for families with children - that work does not pay in many cases. Not so much JSA, but housing and council tax benefits. Many of the available jobs are part-time and close to minimum wage.

Well a 6 hour a week job is better than no job and they would still qualify for some support on such a low weekly hours.

They shouldnt be able to turn there nose up at it and keep freeloading however.

Its also far easier to get a job when you are already in work not to mention that 6 hour a week job could easily become a FT job within weeks if the person impresses.

Your attitude is exactly why so many people are on JSA.
