Ok, so my own business is doing as well as can be expected in the reciession but i decided for some extra income to get a extra job.

Started seaching Thurs morning, had a few interviews yesterday, start work first thing Monday..........

So am I missing something? Why does JSA exist again?!?

What job did you get? Wiping bums in a care home, cleaning the streets, packing ham rolls in a factory...because it wouldnt be a good job in that time span.

Even if you did there must be something wrong with the job as they would appear desperate.

p.s JSA exist so that ppl can get a job that actually pay the bills, plus hopefully save if your lucky.

...and presumably they dont have a life...

Someone who has spent many years putting a "life" together is certainly not likely to give it up for a job by now....bar a written guarantee that they will be able to revert to "normal" within a reasonable timespan anyway.

Just why do you think people have jobs in the first place? = to fund that life.

Sometimes people "speculate to accummulate" - but if the "accummulation" part of that equation is nowhere on the horizon...then what is the reason to "speculate"??

So shift workers do not have a life? Get real!
    Gone ... or have I?

But you took a chance on that job, and that should be applauded.

There are some bad employers out there, hopefully this experience has not put you off, and your next one will be much better.

I see nothing wrong in any of those jobs. They pay a great deal more than JSA.

Oh my days, those poor people that have to work 'antisocial hours'! You really need to get your head out of your backside and have a reality check.

None of my friends who have been made redundant have had any problems with finding work. Yes, some of the jobs are not what they would do in an ideal world, and some even have to work antisocial hours, god forbid! But what they do have is self respect ... and a great deal more career prospects than someone on long term benefits.

Maybe you should get your head out of your backside and realise that 2 parents working antisocial hours does not work!

What age are your friends, what other commitments/responsibilities do they have, what area of work are they in, what jobs have they found, what other qualifications do they have?

Do you not realise that for many people having to go to the jobcentre and sign on every 2 weeks plus be messed about by them and told to like it or lump it, is the most demeaning thing that they could experience?
That applying for jobs everyday to not even be 'worthy' of getting a "sorry not this time" reply is humiliating, to be out of work for the first time in 20yrs and not be eligible to apply for a shelf stacking position is degrading?

Again, maybe you should be thankful you have a job and are not in this position.

If they have gone into that type of work in the first place - then they will have arranged a "life" around hours like that presumably.

If, however, one has spent many years only working in normal workhours - then, equally, ones "life" has been built around that fact as well and interests/social life/friends will all have been chosen and taken on on that basis.

This is the issue - people are too proud to do jobs that they see as beneath them. In many cases they have neither the qualifications or experience to get anything better. If god forbid I had to claim JSA I'd much rather take one of these kind of jobs than languish at home waiting for the 50k job to materialise.

I would choose JSA. Call me a snob but I wouldn't want those jobs on my CV. Employers may see something wrong with some person having a degree and then working in a factory...

I have to say though that there is far too much red tape with regards to just getting a job and paying your way in life.

The attitude that you shouldnt need to take a job unless its on your doorstep and automatically permanent full time hours.

Where on earth did I say that?

You are being a bit daft here - the normal working person has to fit his life around his job. As a teacher I can't go away in term time. It is irritating and plays havoc with my life, as I can't go away for cheap breaks with my friends. However I have good holidays to make up for it. People don't work 24/7 - interests and social life can be easily adapted. Beggars and choosers comes to mind.
