    • Fix the thanks
    • Make the Abuse button go to a web form instead of mailto

The Thanks button works exactly the same as before - I have both Thanked and removed Thanks from your post.

The Abuse Mailto is very unlikely to change and this has been discussed many times previously. This is the way that the Forum Team want abuse reported.

The lack of the GO button is much more of a problem!

If you have a quote as your sig that shows up in green aswell
add that to the lack of space between sig and post it gets confussing,
I agree with a few others about the thread stats in the first post it looks like somethings broken free and gone for a wander.
Maybe have it as a drop down menu ?

I'm not to keen on all the green on the left handside

The best thing for grumpys like me who don't like change to much is we can view in the old format

It's a hell of a lot better than the version you tried a year or so back

As I am one of those users that only learns enough to do what I want ie read some posts, I don't even know really what the subscribe thread stuff actually does. I ignore that it exists as I have decided for no reason that it sends posts out through email. When I use a forum I always go to the forum itself to look at posts/threads - can't stand emails but it's interesting to see how users respond differently if they have simply read it as an email.

When I visit the site, I click on Todays Posts and read from there. If I want to keep track of a thread, I post a comment on it. I then search my own username if I need to look it up again.

I'm laughing at myself now - I bet there's an easier way!

(I can't edit posts or use the thanks button on the oild style, from a previous upgrade that I never flagged).

Referring to the original post, how do you know that some visitors never post? I'm thinking that it's probably me! as I prefer to lurk without logging in (as I lose the Today's Posts when I'm logged in, and New Posts is too restrictive). I log in to post then log out straight away to lurk. Again just a habit I developed without knowing particularly why.

as a comper, this will be interesting to see how you think you can make the "relevancy" work

most comps get in excess of 500 thanks per post, so sorting by wow factor is just going to show a load as important as others for "that board", but the ones that currently get liked the most and are therefore easy to find by using the "likeability" view are the major prize comps from the likes of gmtv, this morning. real deal etc etc with upto £100,000.00 prize money

how will you make these still stand out at the top with 500+ thanks, say to a comp for a £79 nintendo ds lite

    :question::question:

This is one we've given some thought to.

The current like factor is generated by the number of likes weighted for recency.

The wow factor will be generated by the number of thanks of the first post weighted for recency.

The like button hasn't been as success as we hoped and i think we made a mistake going for two ratings systems - the thanks system works - so we're focusing on that.

In freebies and comps where thanks is used to mark that people have done it - i think the fact it shows people have done it means its popular. Add in the recency element and you'll get the newer popular ones at the top :)

Don't see why you have moved the user cp button, it now takes two clicks to see my updated posts instead of one.
    Fix it.

    • Fix the thanks
    • Make the Abuse button go to a web form instead of mailto
    • Put usernames in bold
    • Get rid of Mr Boring and have nothing, like before
    • Put User CP back (or have a more obvious "Subscribed Threads" button, as some people don't realise that User CP takes you there... User Tools on the new look is too obscure for regulars so imagine newbies?)
    • Left align the info under the avatar
    • Perhaps make a way of marking threads on the main page (but not subscribing) for those who do comping.

All of these are things we haven't done deliberately - im not saying we will change them all back (prob will) but as there's no design in the change unless there's an impact to changing them its not much of an issue - (and the signature spacing problem is one i spotted myself and is already on the list)

I've been using the new one for about a day and here are my thoughts, some of which might be irrelevant as Martin has said due to tinkering which is going to occur anyway.

    • I like the fact that some of the white space has gone. As an MSE addict, I can say that sometimes the expanses of white are quite difficult on the eye. The new format has reduced this and this is good, especially for us blinkies.
    • I like the green outlines up to a point although I feel they are too dark; they need to be the same lightness as the blue currently is IMO and the bands are too broad. I prefer the current width of coloured banding.
    • A possibly superfluous point but I think the gap between the sig and the main text should be bigger as the new format makes the sig appear as if it is in the body of the text. I also prefer a continuous line separating the text from the sig rather than the proposed short line.
    • The 'this post has been thanked by...' should be in bold IMO. Ditto the name of the poster in the left hand box containing the avatar, post count etc. Perhaps also this could be in a different font as to me it looks all 'much of a muchness'. The avatar is possibly too big in relation to the rest of the information in that box?
    • I think the 'edit', 'quote reply' 'abuse' buttons etc are too big.
    • There is currently no 'view thanked posts' in the drop down menu. I think there should be. I don't want to have to view a user profile to see all thanked posts by a user. It's a bit of a faff. The current system works well in this respect I think. Please don't change this bit. It's useful to view thanked posts rather than just all posts.
    • Re the user profile changes. I like the 'about me as seen by everyone else' option. This is an excellent improvement and useful. I don't however like the fact that the profile has been split up into the different tabs. What is wrong with all the info being on one page? It seems an easier way of doing it rather than having to tab across three sections.
    Glitches:

    • The posts aren't always updating. If one goes to the drop down menu and wants to view posts, not all of them are there. The most recent ones aren't always included.
    • Once you have thanked someone the thanks button doesn't disappear in some instances and allows you to press it twice. The person is not thanked twice however.
    Some good ideas here. :)
