    These services are still there

    O23 - Service: SupportSoft Sprocket Service (O2) (sprtsvc_O2) - SupportSoft, Inc. - C:\Program Files\O2\bin\sprtsvc.exe

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE

disable them by running services.msc, then reboot

Are those commit figures after a reboot, before loading anything, still far higher than I would expect.

Yeah when I try to remove the 023 service it comes up as removed, but when I do another HJT, it shows it still there?

Regarding the MDM.exe I ticked the two boxes that you said in IE - will I go into Program Files and delete the folder from there?

Yes those commit figures are after rebooting and prior to opening my browser.

    Still high.

open task manager, performance tab, close firefox

    start, run, c:\windows\system32\cleanmem

then note the commit figures. if it is still over 200Meg, go into the process tab, order it into memory usage order by clicking the column headers, and post the top 10 memory hoggers

OP currently has 200 meg free, and has already noted a speed improvement, more memory isn't necessary.
