    It's safe,

The toshiba software is for built in wireless I think, so maybe there is a card in it - have a look in device manager, under network adapters

Just done this: in browser typed about:config and then right clicked in the box below and add a new boolean called config.trim_on_minimize
set to true - now am curious as to what this means by adding this?

Under network adaptors is shows three - 1394 Net Adaptor, Belkin Wireless Adaptor & Intel PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection.

I remember talking to a Toshiba rep ages ago and he thought the card wasn't working and had advised me to get the adaptor if I wanted to go wireless which I bought.

    What model laptop is it?

Not familiar with that one, but the word mobile suggests wireless

config trim tell firefox to release all the memory it has grabbed when you minimize it, similar to cleanmem, but specifically for firefox.

The internal wireless cards are usually (but not always) under a flap on the bottom, and can be identified by 2 pigtail connections for the inbuilt aerial.

If you have the slot but no card, they don't cost much if you want to fit one.

It's a Toshiba Tecra M1 laptop. Just not sure if they are cards in it and if I got a screwdriver out that could be dangerous lol

You'll need to get it out to fit more memory anyway. Where is Malwarebytes' AntiMalware?

there should be a wireless switch on the front panel to the left of the speaker jacks

and the right hand led should light up if wireless is on

Yeah closed, there is a switch which is 'on' but no light to the right. I remember talking to Toshiba about this and they said the only way I could get wireless is to buy an adaptor.

Is there anything that suggests wireless when you click on the Intel PRO/1000 MT Mobile device in device manager, or on the toshiba utility next to the clock

No it doesn't suggest wireless. When I click on properties it shows - Device Type: Network Adaptors, Manufacturer: Intel, Location: PC1 bus 2, device 9, function 0 - this device is working properly.

There is no toshiba utility beside the clock?
