Am I still meant to remove seaport from Program Files? How do I do that?
Sorry not sure what you mean closed by ctfmon - am I meant to remove something else? Any ideas how to get the Peak below 50000 welcome :o

I linked to instructions for this in #42. I can understand you being overwhelmed by the plethora of advice.

Wouldn't worry too much about tuning to the nth degree unless you don't intend to purchase more RAM.
I say this as you are bound to install new items over time, so having more RAM should help to cover this eventuality. Link in #14 in case you missed it.

Can't see seaport or services.msc in HJT ? Sorry just not sure what I'm meant to be doing but everything seems to be going great, with no error message boxes and it's running so much faster thanks to you guys - big clap to you's all :T
Am just going to run Avira, Malwarebytes & Ccleaner and I've uninstalled the other programs.

    install this

    http://www.pcwintech.com/files/setups/cleanmem_v1.5.0_setup.exe

how to disable seaport, click start, run, services.msc then:

    http://forevergeeks.com/why-is-seaport-exe-process-running-on-my-computer

    how to disable ctfmon

control panel, regional and language options, languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok

    how to disable bonjour

    http://download.gizmoproject.com/jasmine/TurnOffBonjour.exe

Set your IE homepage to google or yahoo etc, (IE, tools, internet options, homepage), rather than http://www.uku.co.uk/

disable jqs, sprtsvc and MDM.EXE in the same way as you have disabled everything else using hijackthis

reboot, check the commit figures, should be below installed ram, meaning no more swapping.

Have just installed cleanmem, there's alot of things and I'm not sure which one I'm meant to be using, there's Apply Ignore List, Apply Log Settings, Apply Only List, Cleanmen Ignore List, Cleanmen Log Settings etc - just not sure what I do here?

if you've installed it, it will automatically run every 30 minutes, so you don't need to do anything. You can run cleanmem.exe manually if you want, but you won't see anything, other than memory being freed up in task manager.

Thanks closed, nearly all done apart from fixing MDM.EXE in HJT - couldn't see it? Also when I tried to fix the jqs and sprtsvc it said it was deleted but it's still there?

Also not sure how to sort this out. I use Firefox as my browser and when I open up Windows Live Messenger, it brings up a 'Today' box - if I select a link in it to open, it opens it up in Internet Explorer? Before it would have opened it in the next tab in Firefox?

What are the commit figures now, after a boot, before starting firefox etc?
