I must agree with those who have said that you must go into school and insist the Head comes and speaks with you about your daughter, I would also be phoning beforehand your doctor and explaining what is going on and asking for a letter/sick note stating how dangerous it is to have this boy or anyone hitting her in the back and taking the letter to the Head, I would also make a list of everything that has happened, go armed with everything you have got and insist that this boy is moved immediately (not your daughter), I would send a copy to the Governors anyway, failling that speak to the LEA and Police, I would also let the Head know what you intend to do if this isn't sorted out now.

Remember Teachers/Head Teacher are meant to teach and protect our children.
If are children are not happy we use our feet and move our children to a different school.

    Good luck.

I had a feeling you were going to say that.

    Me too!

I would insist you are seen, speak to the governers and the LEA. I would not let it go until they have to do something to make you go away. I too was bullied and it leaves a mark on you for the rest of your life:(

Had a phone call from head today, asking if my problem was in relation to this particular boy. I said it was, then he asked if i was coming to see him about the boy stealing her milk:mad: No, that wasn't my concern but thank you for letting me know! I briefly outlined my issues and he said he will investigate and i can go and see him next week.
Also mentioned how unhappy i was about horrible boy sitting next to my daughter and he said he will sort it out. So we shall see.

This thread has made me so angry, that nothing has changed over the last 20 years when I was bullied at school. The same old fobbing off, there's no problem going on, blah blah. Please PLEASE get this sorted as soon as you can, the lasting effects of bullying, however "minor" are substantial. I had to have cognitive behavioural therapy 2 years ago and this is 22 years later...
One day I will be out of my student debt, one day...

    *******************************************************************************************
    Anti – bullying Strategies
Unfortunately bullying is not a rare phenomenon, it happens to a greater or
lesser extent in all schools, and it is therefore very important that we operate
an anti-bullying strategy that both the staff and pupils are familiar with.
At no time and under no circumstances will bullying be tolerated at ********.
Nobody ever has the right to hurt someone else by hitting them, kicking them,
calling names, spreading rumours about them or people they care for or by doing
anything else which is intended to be upsetting. It is therefore important that
any such behaviour is brought to the attention immediately of the class teacher
and/or promoted staff by pupils or parents so that we are made aware of it and
    can then take appropriate action.
    This will include [as appropriate]:
    · Circle - time within the class
    · discussion with individuals involved
    · apology letters
    · assisted discussions between pupils
    · record keeping
    · involvement of parents
    · temporary exclusion
However it is important to note that we can only deal with those incidents of
bullying we know about - often parents and children are concerned that
addressing these problems can make matters worse – please be assured that the
above strategies are effective in ensuring that this is not the case.
As with any problems with behaviour working together is essential

    when appropriate:
    behaviour log-book/chart
    home for lunch
    referral to Ed. Psychologist
    temporary exclusion

Have found schools anti bullying guidelines, all seems a bit wishy washy to me!
Not sure it will help me much when i speak to head, i'm not interested in apologies etc as we have already tried that and it didnt have any impact on him.

    Are all schools policies similar?

Most bullying policies in Scottish Schools are similar, however, on Edinburgh City Council website under the 'going to school' section there should be a corporate policy that explains what to do if you are no satisfied with (any or lack of) resolution.
I would highlight (to HT) your child's right to education being blocked by this child's behaviour, that you fear for your child's safety and as the school has duty of care you feel they are being negligent in allowing these abusive behaviours to continue, you understand that HMIe are in the school this week and as a parent it is your right to ask to speak to them (your child should also have completed a questionnaire one of the questions being 'have you been bullied at school' and this is something HMIe are really hot on). Again, school should have parent forum now, and I'd take concern there too - am assuming you won't be only one bringing it up.
Have to say, if don't get outcome you are looking for (make sure you know what want from meeting as 'mediation'?!?! or apology from child is not enough) I'd start mentioning the child law services.
ENQUIRE are very good, over here we have Govan Law Centre who'd be able to advise, but not sure what is comparable in East. Or give them a ring and ask for advice on how best to proceed.
Flip side is that HTs hands may be tied as schools 'encouraged' to reduce number of exclusions, however should be excluding for this behaviour, and raising meeting of serious concern at authority level.
    Hope this helps.

i was bullied at school! and the head took the same approach, as the OP's daughters head of school, "is this about the the boy stealing her milk" translation the tareaway kid said she said i could av' it and he accepts it! i will look into it translation there ive said what you wanted no go away ive got important people comeing to inspect my school and i want you to be quiet!
"i'll sort it " (him sitting next to your daughter) when the investigation is over coz i dont want any kids sat on their own for investigators to ask why then after that i'll forget all about it. "come and see me next week" translation the inspection will be over and no parents in my office or waiting room looks good on me! plus nect week ill be in meetings so i wont see her any way.

next it'll be that your daughter is the instigator and he's an agel when unprovoked!

personally if it would of been me i would of gone down the school walked into his office and sat in his chair if he wasnt in and waited for him, or if he was in a meeting hopefully with inspectors in the room and said i want a word right here right now appologised to the people in the room and asked are you inspectors? yes! good you can stay and here this for yourselfs!

highlight the fact he is a known trouble maker in the class! and request that the class teacher is summond to the office to back you up!!!

    2. highlight the fact that if he neglects to do his duty and this kid succeeds in pushing her down steps and causing further damage to spine you will hold the school accountable to her injurys, loss of school education time, loss of earnings, and compensation for neglect of duty!

3 id put him on the spot and ask him about the schools anti bullying policy if inspectors are in with him, wont look good if he doent know it if he didnt know it how is he supposed to enforce it! wont go down well infront of inspectors.

i'd go in monday morning without your daughter after all monday IS NEXT WEEK!

G and B, have you filled in the parents' questionnaire from ofsted?

Next week is the ideal time for you to see the head. If he doesn't let you have an appointment, then tell his PA that you will be speaking to the inspector/s about the issue instead. Say you appreciate that he has his important issues but that dealing with bullying should be high up on that list.

This is bullying and is unacceptable. I am a little concerned that the response from the class teacher falls somewhat short of robust.

    FWIW I'm a secondary teacher.

eta just read post 24, sorry.
