I am not going to jump to that conclusion. Not to make excuses for Tom - he has a job and he'll be in trouble if he doesn't do it. I'm more annoyed at the people directing him than at him as a mouthpiece - same as when i phone 191.

Still - i know i wouldn't be able to do that job.

I feel quite sorry for Tom. He's in the situation of having to be a mouthpiece to Vodafone. He's on the frontline able only to answer as he is told (i suspect) and is unlikely to have any proper influence on policy.

I know the feeling, i did moderating at EA Games forums, gamers love to complain. The actual site admins were the community reps and you do need some real experience to order to deal with these situations.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

I think this thread is getting somewhat ridiculous with the 500MB limit. The bottom line is they've stated 500MB Fair Use. Thats an actual figure and not some vague number plucked from the air by some CS agent! Anyone going over can/should expect to be charged for the extra data. If you weren't charged before, then count yourselves lucky. £5 for 500MB is still a good deal if you go over. Better than the £2/£3per MB previously.

Therefore I still don't see the real issue here. The only reason I see this thread existing in the first place is someone saw the HTC Desire on a cheap Vodafone tariff and took it up with full knowledge that there was a 500MB limit, but assumed they would not be charge if going over (why would you assume that?). And has now realised they regularly exceed it each month based on Androids reliance on web data and now they want out of contract because they can't afford to be charged for the extra data.

I have no sympathy for people who choose to sign a contract purely for the shiny new phone and then change their mind because they've seen better elsewhere. For these type of people, you really should have done your research before committing yourself.

Read the thread before you make misinformed idiotic statements. People were ASSURED that the 500mb figure was there to stop people abusing and tethering. Staff sold contracts to people on this basis when those people discussed the TMobile 3GB limit with them.

Either you havn't read the thread or you're too thick to understand that basic point. And further you clearly have no understanding of consumer/regulatory law...so go and be a troll somewhere else.

    Bye!

It wasn't an assumption though - it was part and parcel of the sales pitch since competitors offer more, but Vodafone told prospective or renewing customers "oh don't worry about that - we've only put that in to deal with people who abuse the system much more than that, the kind of people who tether or stream TV for hours every day".

What would you say to that?

Mistakes like the wording of his post this morning are totally understandable - subject to human error. Confirming points relevant to every single Vodafoe customer however should be written in stone.

I don't at all, the guy's job (as far as I can see) is to troll the internet and save face for vodafone- if anyone has a bad word to say about vf anywhere on the internet, he will be there for sure.

His answers are very cleverly worded, so that it appears he is doing everything he can to help, while simultaneously doing absolutely nothing to help by completely ignoring all of the questions.

Says a lot about the way vf operate the more this saga plays out-

So rather than actually deal with the issue in hand, put it to bed and move on they prefer just to pay a crack team of trolls to do all their dirty work and try and save as much face as possible.

Tom will never diffuse the situation now its got to this stage, I think what he is saying if you read between the lines is hes done everything that he can (or is allowed) to do, therefore send him as many questions as you like but he just can't answer them as he needs clarification just as much as we do.

We can see that the public are very angry, a lot of questions remain unanswered and Vodafone chooses to bury its head in the sand and do nothing. Their customer services dept cannot help any more and have now allegedly just turned to being obstructive, the web relations team are all out of ammo, the fire is raging and still they do nothing. This has been nearly a week now, right?

Someone needs to take RESPONSIBILITY for this at vodafone and just put the issue to bed if they want to have any customers left. For those that want out, for those that want to stay, for those that are undecided- Action is needed.

Another point I should mention as people keep saying 'but the iphone has 1GB' This is becuase the terms are set by apple, notice how every iphone data package is the same with every operator, right? All of them are 1GB.

Vodafone surely had to agree to the data terms as requested by apple or they would not have let them supply the phone. If they were applying this 500MB limit to iphone users contracts too apple would be suing them for breach of contract so they have to leave that one as it is.

Nokia and HTC clearly had no arrangement in place, so their handsets are at the mercy of vf. I wonder what Nokia and HTC are making of all this shambles..........

Sorry, but you are wrong. I renewed my contract last week, before I read all this news, and the VF rep catorgorically stated that the internet was and "unlimited" package. I said, good, because I have a HTC Desire and that's what attracted me to VF again. He assured me that I wouldn't need to worry and had piece of mind taking out the "unlimited" internet. I then said to him is there a FUP on it and he said yes 500mb but I didn't need to worry as it is unlimited and I wouldn't be charged if I went over. To me that means there would be no more charges, yet VF are now saying that if you go over the limit at least twice in two months, no matter by how much wheather that is 1kb or 1GB you will get charged or asked to move onto a higher limit.

This is not what I was told and not what I was sold, so I canceled my renewal and will be going to another company who are clear on their usage policies.

I don't mind VF enforcing a cap, I don't mind them putting a cap of 500mb on their internet, but what I do mind is their use of the word "unlimited" and "FUP" when the service is NOT that! That is miss selling and misleading to customers. If they just made it clear and said:
"the limit is 500mb per month. You will not get charged for going over in the first month, but if you go over in two consecutive months, we will charge you £5 per 500mb"

That is clear, but no where on their terms and conditions does it say that. It just says that if THEY deem your usage to be excessive, then they will charge you. How do you know what that means? If you have a smart phone, and has been proved, 500mb is NOT excessive. VF seem to think that is, though they dont say that and so you are not able to make an informed decision on what is good for you.

I believe the 2.05pm post by VF clarifies where do VF and ourselves stand now.

I am quite happy now that VF has dropped a somewhat clear answer to the questions raised albeit a week after the issue was raised.

Now, all I want to work towards is if this contract is legal anymore or not?
