Hi there Snaggles and all the other mums-to-be posting on this thread.
I've only just found this and thought I'd say hello.
I am a midwife - only work very occasionally now as semi retired & hust do a bit of bank work. :D
I'm sure your own midwife will keep you informed and hopefully answer any queries, but I know that lack of continuity in ante natal care can be a problem nowadays, and also the amount of clinic appointments is a lot less than it used to be. I think most people are happy with this, but there'll always be some who have lots of questions.
So anything you want tot know girls - just fire away & I'll do my best to help.

Great to hear about your successful breastfeeding last time - if you've done it OK once there's an extremely good chance it'll all go well again. :A
Also, sooooo pleased to hear you're considering using re-usable nappies.
I agree with the point about shelling out and finding they don't fit/aren't suitable though.

In our area there used to be ladies who worked as 'reps' for the nappy companies and would come to your home or sometimes attend an antenatal class with samples etc. I'll have alook see what I can find.
Anyway, sorry about the essay - we midwives sure can talk - ask my husband:rotfl: .
    Good luck
    Terri ;):D
When I married 'Mr Right', nobody told me his first name was 'Always'. ::rotfl:

    1 dd age 9
    1 ds age 5
and last but not least ds age 3 in two weeks... and i would love another girl but thats another story..lol
Thanks, it's been a bit hard going with the morning sickness, but it's so worth it when you see them wriggling about on the ultrasound monitor thingy. The lady that was doing the scan was laughing because she wouldn't stay still for her to get the pictures she needed.

You're brave, wanting a fourth baby! I think this will be my last, because I love babies and children, but I don't find being pregnant very easy, and I'm a bit scared of giving birth lol!

Did you find much difference between baby boys and baby girls, or does it just really depend on the temperament of the individual baby? I've been told that boys are easier babies (DS was a little angel), but girls are easier from toddler age onwards (until they hit their teens  ). Not sure how true it is though.

Awww that is just so sweet! Bless indeed!

Well done on the bargains, sounds like you got some lovely and cheap things. Must be a relief to know all is well and she's baking nicely.

Snaggles if I get broody I will hold you personally responsible! :p
Hahaha, that's okay, blame me, I don't mind. Yes, it was a big relief to hear she was okay thanks, I was so nervous for a couple of days beforehand, wondering if everything would be alright.

(And hey, if Moozie approves of me spending money, I KNOW I must have shopped wisely!)

Thanks, that's a really nice offer....I hope you don't mind if I take you up on it, as I get a bit tongue tied when I go to my midwife appointments, and forget what I wanted to ask, or feel too silly asking daft questions!

I'm still in two minds about the re-useable nappies, I think at the moment I'm planning on using a mixture of re-useables and disposeables (I'll just buy a few reuseables to start with, and see how I go on with them, and then maybe buy more when I feel a bit more confident with them). I think part of the problem is that I don't know ANYONE at all who has used them, so I can't go by personal recommendations. Someone has started a thread about them on the families board though, so I'll be reading that avidly to get some info and tips!

I'm feeling fairly confident about the breastfeeding now, after worrying about it a few weeks ago. I enjoyed feeding my son myself (sooo much less hassle than sterilising/mixing etc, and you get to sit down and have a rest for 20 minutes or so, several times a day....hurray!!).

I'm going to try and get the hang of expressing milk this time, because hubby would have really enjoyed taking part in some of the feeding (never really managed it last time, I could only express very small amounts, despite feeling like I had enough milk to feed the whole street). Is it best to get the breast feeding well established first though before I try with bottles? (I think that's what I was told last time, although to be honest, DS would have drunk it from a pint glass if I'd asked him to!!).

Yes, a lot of people feel a bit like this.
But just remember, if you want to know it - then it's not stupid!!
Also why not try to write down all your questions - make a list and put it in your ante natal notes. I'm as bad as most and often forget to ask so it really is best to make a list;)

A lot of girls are a bit wary of this and I think you are absolutely 'spot on' to talk to others who have used them. most people who have find they're Ok, not without problems, but what re dealing with babies nappies is perfect ?? But look, listen, ask questions , and make your own decisions.
And also remember, this does not just affect you and your baby/family, here and now, but will really have an impact on your babies future environment! Just a thought that sometimes gets forgotten.

Absolutely - again I always say, when mum/mum in law or whoever comes to help you when you come home with baby, if you're breastfeeding, YOU feed the babe, THEY do the ironing! :D

Well, I do think you need to wait a wee while before doing the expressing & bottle feeding, but having said that, earlier introduction to the odd teat does no harm I don't think AS LONG AS the baby is feeding well, and most of the feeds are at the breast.
I too understand that dads like to be involved, but I always used to say at the classes that their role here is as a supporting act rather than the starring role. Most dads surely want what's best for their babies, and where feeding's concerned - a no-brainer really;)
They're great at winding/settling them though - with nice flat chests to lie on ( no lumps & bumps :rotfl: ) and nice large hands to make them ( the babies that is!) feel secure.

    Hope this helps,
    Terri:cool: :D

Ladies this is all really useful stuff for a brand new mum-to-be. Snaggles I'm so pleased to hear all is going well with your pregnancy. I'm just over 35 weeks now and really looking forward to meeting my little boy.

I've bought a selection of cloth nappies from eBay which I'll try out to see which brand suits us both best. I've got disposables as a back-up and until he grows into the clothies but I definitely want to try to use mainly clothies for financial and environmental reasons.

Snaggles how many weeks are you now?

Wattapain - thanks very much for the advice and support, it is really appreciated. When I read your post it made me smile because I remember with my 6 year old that hubby was a miracle worker at getting the wind up - I could barely get him to burp at all, but 2 minutes on hubby's chest and he was belching like a proper bloke lol!

Scaredy cat - wow, what a bargain! I've been looking out for a sale near me, although haven't checked the website for a couple of weeks - I must remember to do that tomorrow :o

Mrs Sparkle - I was only thinking earlier today that you must be due any time - hope it's all going well for you. I'm 22 weeks now I think, although I keep losing count! Not long now until your little boy arrives then - hope your labour is nice and quick, and as painless as possible! Repeat after me....'It's just like shelling peas'!! (well, we can live in hope, can't we??? :D)
