yea, im the same, wish the solicitor had mentioned we might need an environmental search earlier, sneeky devils!

Just spoke to my solicitor and the search is going to cost £50, not the £150 he said! Anyway once they are done he said we should be able to sign the contracts end of next week and move by the end of the month, hurrah!

Does anyone know what happens in between signing the contract and getting the keys?

thanks! Im hoping this week will be the week things all go! I have started packing a bit, but we ar ein rented and our tenancy doesnt end until end of july so got plenty of time to do it gradually! And also, obviously we wont have to deal with a current mortgage because we are renting :)

hope everyone is getting on ok, I want to get moving now!!

    Hi everyone
Sorry I've not been around much.
I have had a 2-week delay caused by the mortgage co putting the wrong address on the mortgage offer (they put the house number as #17 instead of #16) & it caused everything to have to be reissued.
It's all moving again now - the revised offer is through so exchange *should* be end of this week (I hope!!). I need to talk to the solicitor again today ...

Hi guys, mind if I join in?

We were meant to be at the end of this very stressful housebuying lark, so I was just hoping I could just vent a bit on here. We had an offer accepted on a 3 bed house on the 8th March, and were finally told on Thursday that we could expect to complete on the 21st June. Whoopee I thought, that is until they rung back friday afternoon saying someone up the chain wants to move the 25th!

That would have been fine and dandy, if it wasnt for the budget speech on Tuesday! Are any FTB's like us worried about them scrapping stamp duty exemption? And on top of that, VAT rising to possibly 20%, increasing what we expected to pay for moving costs, fees etc.

We've reached a stalemate now with the vendors further up the chain, they refusing to move the date, and we wont exchange until after the budget, just to be sure.

    Grrrr!

Anyhoo, good luck to those looking to exchange soon, and congrats to those who have moved into their new homes recently!

    Hi

I am also worried about the stamp duty exemption - we were hoping to complete by next week but we haven't even got a date for exchange yet - argh!

Hoping if they do lower the threshold, there will be a period of grace - I can't see how they can bring it in immediately as having to pay an extra £2k can affect people's budgets quite a bit! Fingers crossed...

We are just starting off the process. Offer accepted of 163.5k on a 170k property :). Took a week of negotiating. Property on Mouseprice is estimated at 180k... so am chuffed to bits.

Instructed solicitor and house has been taken off the market.

Going to apply for mortgage with britannia tomorrow (anyone got any experience of them?). Am too hoping the stamp duty doesn't get cancelled as that would be a bummer.
