Hi,
My Mum is 60 in May this year.
We have organised a suprise party for her in Barcelona. She is going with my Dad and Aunty and Uncle then the rest of the family, me, and hubby, little sis and her hubby and 2 kids and another Anunty and Uncle will all go as a surprise a couple of days later! We are all very excited about it and cannot wait to see her face when we all turn up at their hotel!
I fully expect tears!
Also I have had made a photo book with all her old photos in, I contated various members of the family who have sent pictures of Mum as a kid etc and scanned them in to pc. have up loaded them to https://www.Mypix.com and whilst it is not dirt cheap I think for nearly 200 photos £40 in a book that I have put text etc in is pretty good for a lasting present that I KNOW Mum will love! Was going to do a scrap book but decided a printed book would be better and last longer too!
She has done so much for me and my sister I just want her to know how much I love her!
(and even though I dont get on with the brother-in-law we have all promised to make an effort for Mum!)0 -

For all of our parents milestone birthdays we did a "this is your life" book and included photo's of different stages of their lives from birth to present day. We wrote a piece to go with each page of the album and basically told their life stories. They were all thrilled and it is lovely to have one album that spans your entire life.
For my mother in law this year (60th) we did her a digital photo album of the recent holiday we shared with them. Asda had a good deal on their website and we bought her a 40 page hard backed album with lots of digital pictures and captions. She loved it.Make £10 a day in January 2014 - £39.68 / £3100 -
Hi,
If you go to https://www.corkingdesigns.co.uk you can choose a bottle of engraved Wine or Champagne with a birthday design on it. You can then have a message of your choice engraved on the back.
I listed their competition on this site this month (and will again next month) If you sign up to their news letter they send you a discount code for money off your first champagne order.
Its worth a look and a great prezzie

I'm having my 60th in October and I want to invite everyone but can't afford a hotel so I've booked a Church Hall and asked lots of people to "do a turn". We'll have lots of dancing and instead of presents I've asked everyone to cook their best dish so no buffet costs. The family will pay for booze.
Excited already!!0 -
I think ideas like a photo album of somebodies life is such a good idea, it brings together so many memories and to have individual memories alongside is even more special. For my mothers 60th my partner and i made a collage of pictures from birth to present day and tried to include most persons who were present at her suprise do. We scanned most of the pics on our laptop and printed them off then bought some large card and got it laminated at a stationary shop. It was a real talking point of the party and most people gathered around to look at it. It didn't cost much but the sentimental value is priceless. Also if you have a party places like church halls are a good idea, we were lucky that my mothers golf club gave us the venue for free. Also we placed disposable cameras on most tables, which were cheap to purchase and produced lots of nice pics of the evening just try to get the ones with free or very cheap film processing0

My mum was 60 last July.
She went to the free Pink Floyd Concert in 1970, and is always telling me about how wonderful it was (old hippy!).
So I got her 2 tickets to the Pink Floyd Concert in Hyde Park last year where Roger Waters was doing the complete 'Dark Side of the Moon' followed by a Best of.
She loved it! It seemed to be a great link with the past, and showed her she's still young enough to enjoy a rock concert!0 -

Depends where you are, but we were given a card from Sharrow Bay Hotel inviting us to take afternoon tea there at our convenience. This is a very famous hotel on the edge of the lake district. It is visited by famous people ( Inc Richard & Judy regularly) and the experience is out of this world. The location is superb as well. Tea for 2 costs £35.
No doubt you can find a similar location nearer you where a special meal could be taken.0 -
Hi,
Not sure where you live but I took both my mother and my mother-in-law to the Midland Hotel in Manchester (very posh hotel) for afternoon tea for Mothers day, and they loved it, they not quite 60 yet but it's perfect for any age. It costs £16.95 per person (which sounds expensive but it's worth every penny and you a so stuffed after, we even got them to wrap up the cakes we couldn't eat - very thrifty) and you get unlimited tea/coffee, then it's all very posh with a cake stand with 3 tiers; sandwiches then scones and cream and then minitures cake. If you're not from manchester maybe a posh hotel near you does it. It's a really nice treat. They also had a band playing the background too. Just an idea!!0
