Kids don't have to cry and scream. If I was that old and crying and screaming my Mum woulda smacked me til I shut up as its rude.

Its another reason why parents shouldn't take young kids on bloody planes.

Unbelievable, parents not supposed to go on foreign holidays now?

Maybe we should just ban children as they are too much hassle for the general public to put up with.

If and when i am fortunate to go out for a meal, i like to enjoy it and will avoid 'family' restaurants, may be its the area i am in, but there will be parents wrapped up in their own drinks/meals/conversations, and completely ignore what their own child is doing..

I don't want to be somewhere with kids shouting, screaming and running around. screaming hurts my ears, and then its not enjoyable for me, and yes i have complained if i am not happy.

In France, parents have (just based on looking) better control of children, the kids don't misbehave, perhaps they don't have kids with adhd, then again they tend not to pump their kids full of e numbers.

When ds was small, if he played up when out and about, we went home, no if's and no buts, he was a 'normal' child.

OH's neighbour has 4 kids one has adhd and my god.. they don't structure his day, he screams and cry's 99% of the time, i would not like to be out with them at all.

    1) The OP would have said in their post.
    Possibly, possibly not

    2) There is always other ways of communicating. My mum told me I couldn't speak (properly) til I was 3 (still can't though lol)! Yet I could tell her there was a problem with 'bub ba' and point. Good for you. Maybe this child had no other way of communicating

    3) Oh give it a break. Finding out I completely agree with but the fact is, this kid was quite clearly hungry and the kid still kept crying! The parents couldn't have easily asked for bread. If the kid kept crying after that, you would just let it? Quite clearly hungry? How do you know this was the only cause of the crying?

Please, if you ever have kids, or if you do, pray to God you never run into me on a plane or a restaurant. Why not? What would happen?

And yes, in other parts of Europe they may let their children run around screaming etc., but this isn't the other part of Europe, this is England.

Just another point - this isn't England - this is the internet

Personally, OP's issue aside I'm just astounded that a poster here advocates smacking a child who is crying to shut it up!

Ah, the old "I don't, so no one else does and this therefore isn't true" argument...

Fact is, it's true whether you do or not. Maybe you and your friends do control your kids, but an awful lot of people aren't as thoughtful as you.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen - obviously it does, I've seen it myself, and I've had to deal with my own kids when they have played up.

But a bit of tolerance doesn't cost anything.

That was my original thought but others seem to disagree.
I dont agree with your comment about taking young kids on planes.
I took my DD abroad when she 1. No problem at all, the worst offenders were the 7/8/9 yo, whose parents let them kick the back of seat, stick their hands through to us, jumped up and down and talked non stop:mad:

    Er... no.

Taking holidays abroad can often be construed as going to countries other than France

Why? I got smacked when I was a little s*** and I have turned out fine. Never done drugs, only smoked a few times, never been in trouble with police (apart from the other end of an assault).

Given the fact I am 21, have a decent job, and will be going back to uni to graduate next year, and hopefully go back to working at one of the best companies in the world, I feel as though this is through how I have been brought up.

We agree to disagree quite clearly on this.

I know. Thats not what Older not Wiser person said was it? They said that children can't go abroad without a plane. When in fact, this is false.

You don't have to get on a plane to go abroad. That was my point.
