I find that quite offensive to be honest, I have been a BG for years and I think I can safely say I have never used my "powers" to win an argument.

Why should we not post we have opinions and advice to offer, sometimes we need help and support too?

Frankly if the BGs did not post on some of the forums I frequent there would be a lot of vulnerable posters who received seriously incorrect advice, that could lead them to lose their homes for example.

And I know that a number of BG's post requesting advice themselves; why should they be denied this opportunity.

Yes, sometimes on some threads a BG's post has extra authority but a good chunk of that is based on their post count as much as their status, and on their knowledge base.

I regard the BG statement of status as a legal device to protect MSE and as a way of clearly indicating that the BG is an OP with additional buttons.

I also think it is often appropriate for BGs to close threads for further review until such time as the paid for staff can review it. Sadly I have seen situations where very vulnerable posters have be subject to serious abuse (weller for one). Then it can be re-opened, deleted, locked with no edits or locked with edits, as appropriate.

Right now I think the BR forum plea is appropriate; if it upsets you, report it to abuse and get off-line

As long as that is applied across the board, that would be fine, and it of course is also dependent on how you define "upset".

Is that annoyance, irritation, anger or genuine hurt?, and how far is anyone allowed to go to make their point, and is that distance objective or subjective, and is that distance equally applied to all?

Lots of variables which explain why your plea is rarely adhered to .....by anyone:D

I do agree with your comment about vulnerable people, but they are in the minority, and are usually obvious, and most decent people pull back from making comments designed to hurt such people.
