Hi Maz...Chester, by the sealand road/greyhound park shopping park. Ours is a 51 plate, there is no way I would ever normally use a dealer garage but after being given different stories by different garages I wanted an independant one, and one that would have the correct diagnostic equipment, to have a look.

It cost £50 for them to look at it and also do a 25 point health check on it. It came back with a list of little jobs that need doing, a bulb, window wipers, battery failed some test or other aparrantly a crack on engine mount....all non essential jobs, well apart from the bulb which would need doing for the MOT.

The main reason we took it there was to find out if the leak was an oil leak or transmission leak....well it is both, although the oil leak can be done at some other time, we can just top it up for now, but the transmission is a bloody pain in the rear!! They wanted me to pay £108 just to drain it and fill it, then for me to drive about in it and book it back in for them to distinguish which part is the problem......although they think it is the hydrolic blah blah, which will cost thousands!!! Haha, I don't think so....I can get a gearbox from a breakers for less than £500 and have it fitted by my garage total cost maybe £700/£800 and voila, no more leaking:)

Sorry for car rant, I am just flaming annoyed with the stupid car because it is preventing me doing things, as I am reluctant to go too far in it!!!!!

2. What kind of thing goes on at a mother and baby group? I'm thinking about joining one but I'm not very good at social situations and making new friends. I don't have any friends where we live now and the last time I made new friends was at uni, a good 6 years ago!

At my one the chairs are arranged around a baby area and then bigger toys/trikes etc are outside the square of chairs. Mums basically sit about on the chairs and chat while the kids play. It only costs £1 per child entry fee, and there is tea, juice and biscuits provided. There is also crumpets and a small dontaion is usually given to cover the cost of these each week, only say 10p-50p

I got chatting to the mums easily enough... as it is nice just to smile at the kids and then ask mum how old, name etc....

beenie .. stick to your guns the woman is taking the p!ss .. she knows you're a push over why else would she be offering you £10 for 3.5 hours thats a joke .. £25 maybe £30 yer but £10 .. on your bike missus .. cant afford childcare thats her problem not yours hes HER child and not to fob him on on to you because she cant fit him in to her life ... GRRRRR i feel so angry for you .. let me grab my coat and bag and i'll tell the cheeky mare myself x

Well done for not cracking!!At the end of the day it's really not your problem if her kid won't go to just anyone (and maybe that's cos a chilminder would be telling him off all the time for being a pita?!)

Just stay strong, you've done the hard bit You could even follow up with a text tomorrow saying you've had a good think about it but there's just no way you can do it and you wanted to let her know now so she (or the dad) has plenty of time to sort something for next week.

Beenie, stay strong hon xx you have done the hard bit.

Childminders aren't the only option, there is two parents, surely she has family/friends locally too, or there are after school clubs too.....failing that she will have to do what every other parent does and work around your children. Tuff!!

Fwiw, I used to pay about £3.50 per child, per hour for after school club for my two older ones.

P.S Aless...No rush lovely, I am very, very grateful:D

Sami so sad about ILs pets I hate animal cruelty. And Aless, your cat sounds like a pita My bl&8dy cat almost caused me to break my legs today - she ran up the stairs as I came down, carrying Guy, I tripped and fell down, Guy banged his head (lovely red mark to show for it ) and I am waddling like a duck with bum/back pain, lovely!!

Muso Guy comes in the bath with us sometimes and has done from less than a week old. I've still not made a mums & babies group (well done for getting to the point of contemplating one so quickly!!) but I figure everyone is in the same boat looking for new mummy friends

Cream crackered tonight, went out with Guy this morning to do boring jobs then went with OH to his hospital app this aft, the good news is, though he's covered in moles none of them are a concern I did learn that being moley is genetic and if you're predisposed and don't properly cover kids they will end up moley too, but if you do, then they won't :cool: So Guy will now be even more religiously lathered in factor 50! Then we went to the park with my little sis and had dinner with my family, now home and listing more of our c*ap on eBay, I so need to get rid of the boxes of clothes I don't wear before we move

Beenie - stick to your guns - I used to get paid £10 16 years ago for a nights babysitting (4 hours) so your friend is definitely taking the mick.

Tell her that a) the money doesn't make any difference to how inconvenient it is and b) if she paid you, it would be breaking the law as you are not a registered childminder.
