also a £35,000 price on my head! Because of the court agreement re. the house if I ever wanted to live with someone or remarry (as well as the usual 'when youngest child leaves full time education') I would have to pay the ex 40% of the equity of the house!

That sounds ridiculous Sarah! Is there no way you could change that? They can't expect people to live on their own unless they want to can they?

i thought of making the ex an offer of £10,000 which would be the 35 grand minus the child support hes not paid and the child support he is not going to pay in the future!!!

    Congratulations on the job Sarah!

DO you stooze at all? Was just going over our budgets again trying to squeeze an extra few quid here and there when I remebered I should have £150 by July as I am stoozing from 3 credit cards at the moment. If you are about to start a job, your credit rating will look OK it might be an option for a bit extra? I opened an online current account with Citibank - for which Inreceived a £25 joioning incentive - and balance transfer directly into there as it pays 4.65 AER on credit balances. Because it is a current account I have set up the minimum monthly payments to direct debit directly from that account too. This way I dont have to find cash for the monthly payments. I dont use the account for anything else, my boyfriend laughs as I call it my stoozing account!
I recently "invested" £3,000 of Frist Direct's money and they even gave me 6 free bottles of wine to say thank you!

Alos, always complain if anything is not quite right as often you will get a money off voucher from the supplier.

    Heres to a better future.
Me debt free thanks to MSE :T

that's awful to have to pay up if you live with someone new!! that rule doesn't apply to everyone i don't think, i know someone who has to pay her ex his share of the equity when the youngest child (not including any she might have with a new partner) leaves school but there's nothing stopping her from living with a new man, her boyfriend has moved in. is there anything you can do about it?

slap me down if i'm wrong, i haven't been in this situation and aren't totally sure what equity means, but if it's the difference between the house sale value and the mortgage left on it would it be in your interests to move sooner rather than later - meaning there's still a big mortgage to pay off so the equity is small? or have i got it all wrong? if so that might be an option if or when you have a new partner you want to live with.

this all sounds so unfair, you have to give him money but nobody is making him give you any for child support :-(

Paying the ex out when you live with someone new is not unheard of. We have friends who have separated, she and the kids will live in the house until youngest leaves full time education, after which he will get X% of the house. However, she has a new man (reason for split) but can't have him move in as she would have to pay up after 6 months of living together. Whilst my friends circs are different to yours, Ssaver, it's so that in our friend's case, he has to hole up in a pokey flat whilst she and new man get to live in the lovely family home. If they are serious, basically, new man puts his money where his mouth is and buys our friend out.

Well maybe your friend was nicer than my ex. I hope so.
I'm not disputing the fact that I am worth 35 grand - or maybe more!!!
Just that now I would have to stooze/work my !!!!!! off/get into debt or be single forever more.
Your friend's ex does have the kids with her, as I do.

Anyhow, quick update, I am still managing to save more money, by doing the grocery challenge and getting the shopping done for under 20 quid a week:)
Next personal challenges are to get some stuff on ebay, and get a job or become self-employed. Watch this space!
