What about an allergy test. When my 14yr old daughter was a baby, never slept for the majority of her first year. Turned out she was lactose intolerant. When she was 10 months, the Doctor suggested soya. As soon as I changed her to soya milk, the restless nights stopped.

At that age she should not be needing fed throughout the night, I wouldnt have thought

oh i know that, but considering about a month a go she could go through 2 7oz bottles during the night, i am pleased to have knocked it back this far.

Curious George - i read your post with interest and am thinking of how to incorporate that into what i already do. i still have LO in with me (no other option at present).

it's having the mindset to carry it through all night every night. i know that is what is required, but when you are doing it on your own every night, working full time and having some health issues yourself it makes it so hard to have that resolve to not give in.

i must draw the strength from somewhere

    thanks again

Do you have a good friend or relative who could come and stay for a couple of days to help you out?

  • could you try music or a story tape/cd , my dd used to happily lie upstairs listening to the(quiet) radio when she was a baby ..

i was going to suggest the same thing. Classic fm on the radio has always done the trick for my daughter, she still asks for it now when she wakes up & cant sleep, if i put on a story or song, she'd stay awake listening for the next bit.....but has never done this with the radio, just drifts off everytime! i have recommended this to my sister too who has a 10 month old son.

    good luck. :T

I craved milk when carrying, and guzzled a lot of it.

I got the usual, maybe she's constipated, or colic. She would take up to 3 hours to feed on a 4 once bottle, and still wake up for the next feed an hour later. Fedding every four hours, but taking 2/3 hours to drink it. It was a nightmare.

Hi Glam, I lurk on the parent thread and I think you are due to go back to work in a few weeks and J is going to a nursery.
You may find that J starts to sleep better then as he will have more of a routine during the day and be tired out through nursery and playing with the other babies. Going back to work may actually help with the problem as you are both kind of 'forced' into a daily routine 5 days a week. Fingers crossed this will happen for you.

DS2 was more of a cat napper, and if he had a full hour at any time of the day it was a long sleep, yet he still slept through at night. It's so true what people say about never getting two the same!

I think with all these methods, being consistent is the most important thing but its also the hardest!

By the way, Jack is a very good name choice!

    It is isn't it? :D

I am not a routine person in the slightest and neither is OH but like you say I know when I go back to work I'll have to be! There won't be enough hours in the day to work and do everything that needs doing as well as spend time with J.

CG - I read your post earlier but didn't have time to respond. We too have creaky floorboards - a nightmare when I go to check on him before I go to bed. I've tried the standing at the door trick before and it did work so I will try it again I think but like AF said its finding the strength to get on and do it (although I'm not even back at work yet and still knackered).
I'm debating the radio because he does like background noise and his lullabies only stay on for 5mins at a time.

Where does the time go?
