Making a mother with a child in arms, prove that her baby's food is not in fact an explosive, tells me that this whole thing is terrorism ie. terrorism by our own government. They are out to scare us and make us more compliant.

Anyone who would believe that there is any realistic possibility that a mother would want to use her child to carry out a suicide attack is taking the whole thing too far and is not reacting to the reality of the situation as it is. The facts are that there is a tiny chance that there will be a bombing of a civilian airliner.

The inflated language of the Home Secretary and senior police officers are only carrying out the intentions of the terrorist. Terrorists don't actually need to do anything now except create rumours to achieve far more disruption and publicity to their cause than a bomb would do.

We serve their aims by overeacting to everything and showing, not how strong and sensible we are, but how weak and easily led we are.

Meanwhile look at what is happening and make your own decisions. Air travel is very safe and remains that way even after the latest debacle.

My main worry is that the guns of the police are pointing at the public in the airports - They are looking at you.

This whole statement is complete rubbish.

They are making mothers drink the baby milk for a reason. They dont do it as they think it will be a bit funny "ha ha, drink it faster", they do it because there was a threat involving liquids and scumbags who jump on planes full of people with the sole intention of blowing it up and killing all on board will stop at nothing. My partner is a mother and if tasting the milk in front of security staff keeps her family safer on a plane then so be it.

If a member of your family got onto a plane and something happened then im sure that the Govt would probably be to blame for not doing more!!!?!!

As for terrorism by our own Govt and all the other rubbish being spouted, get a grip and start to smell the coffee. There are people who want to kill us via any means necessary because they are told that this is good for their religion and will erase evil. These people exist and are constantly trying to find ways of causing huge destruction.

Sorry i'm going to have to disagree, they will put our security first over money because if our country doesnt have these securities in place, no one will visit our country and then the businesses wont have any business.
If terroisim continues to iincrease within the UK it will seriously effect our economy.

Hope you don't mind me quoting you Sparkle but about half an hour ago the powers that be decreed that the security threat is now only "severe" as opposed to "critical".

Apparently, according to the BBC, "severe" means a terrorist attack is now only "highly likely" to occur!

Couldn't help but notice both O'Leary (Ryanair) and Walsh (BA) were today highly critical of BAA's efforts to move people through airports, particularly Heathrow, and both cited this as the main reason for cancelled flights.

It will be interesting to see who "wins" this one...

That is a great relief. The new rules come in at 04:30 tomorrow, and we are due to fly at 06:40.

Now to unpack the valuables from the cases to put back into hand luggage.

Where are you flying from? Because it seems that all the non BAA airports are bringing in the new regulations straight away.

No their reasons are because they are fanatical nutters. The reasons you give are excuses that they come up with in order to make it seem as though they are doing it for a reason. They are doing it because they are fanatical madmen who dont care about human life and want to murder a vast amount of people. They can make up any excuse they want to, i dont beleive any of it.

girlfriend checked in this mornnig to go to London with Easyjet, at the time they were saying no hand luggage, one piece of checked luggage and 25 kg

she travelled here before the terriorst threat so had more than 25kg including hand stuff, we packed as much as we could and in to the one bag and even left somethings at my house

it was 27kg, so easyjet charged her £10

good to see them making a profit out of this situation

They also already cancelled her flight before the terriost threat without informing her

i'll not be dealing with this company in the future

Given that the Easyjet baggage allowance is usually 20kg and they have lifted it (for the timebeing) to 25kg, they look to me to be acting very fairly.

Lets be honest, your girlfriend packed to much stuff, tried to get away with it, got caught, was charged extra and now you've got the hump.

It is now thought that this was part of the plan. A mother and child are far less likely to arouse suspicion. Just because we find it difficult to conceive of this scenario does not mean it is not a real threat. This is why mothers are being asked to taste the formula/bottled milk before boarding the plane.

The likelihood of anything happening may now be significantly reduced, but it does not matter how small the risk is. If anything occurs, it's going to be devasting to the industry. Flying can be a very stressful and frightening experience for many as it is, if anything occurs, they may well seek alternative methods of transport (people in this state of mind are likely not going to care whether their fear is rational or not).

The way I see it is if nothing occurs, then the security people are doing their job well.
