It ocurred to me that they may never have intended to go through with their plans, and that the plans were leaked on purpose to cause a mass panic - which they succeeded in doing. Apparently this a technique that the IRA used to use.

But hasn't the security been stepped up world wide? Plus, the main focus has been on UK-US flights - why would any other country be attacked by these people?

I would have done exactly the same thing.

I posed the question as to how many people detained might be innocent, I feel in the current climate of fear, there may well be some that are. You have stated that none of them are completely innocent, and if tried will slip through the legal system, because of politically biasd juries.

So my comments on Police executions still stands, if the Police had executed them we may well have stopped future atrocities, however we would have had to bear the prospect of killing some innocent citizens. I suppose my next question is 'is this a price we can accept'

I think it suits the UK & US governments to have something to distract everyone - on the TV news, etc. - from Israel's actions in Lebanon. It gives Israel more time to do what they think they need to do.

It also serves to show people in the UK & US how 'those nasty Arabs' are still a threat, when we are all starting to be a bit more sympathetic to their being murdered in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon by UK/US/Israeli soldiers/weapons.

We also have a Police force who are desperate - after some seemingly bungled operations - to be seen to be 'foiling' some major terrorist threats.

May seem to be a conspiracy theory, and I'm sure there is something in the stories of what those arrested were planning, but I'm just saying it would serve all the vested interests to bring any arrests forward and to exaggerate their importance.
