    Thanks for the link Donnie.
I finally got through again on the 0871 number, pen to hand this time, and rang the Dublin number - and it just rings 3 times, and then a whole lot of NOTHING. Well - usually nothing - once I got through to the same recorded message as on the 0871 number - and yes you guessed it they asked me to ring the same 00353 number I was currently ringing! Genius!

I tried all the other numbers on saynoto0870 and they all now link to a recorded message after you let it ring about a million times. I tried dialling 0 but to no avail.

Hopefully things will be less mental tomorrow and I can get through using the website then. They say you can only change bookings today and tomorrow, so I had better flippin get through tomorrow. Otherwise I might risk the 1 pound a minute 'internet support' line to see if they can put me through.

Does anyone have any info on electronic key fobs please? Is that a normal car key and will car keys also have to be stored in the hold?

Since the plot is thought to have involved a camera flash triggering an explosion, I think we can say goodbye to anything electronic. I'm not happy with having to check in an expensive camera, but better that than risk anything.

Car keys will likely not be exempt either.

I'd be operating on the assumption that anything electrical is not allowed. It will save potential hassles at check-in.

Anyone know how long the hand luggage restrictions are going to last?

With my girlfriend due to fly home Monday, I'm concerned as to how Easyjet are going to handle this baggage thing. As if she has to check everything in, the stuff that she was carrying as hand luggage will almost certainly take her over the 20kg's limit. Is she going to be charged the £5 per kg?

To makes things worse we're in Newcastle she's got to fly to Slovenia, I know easyjet don't operate as connecting flights, so she has to fly from Newcastle to Stansted then Stansted to Ljubljana, as you can imagine the worst case scenario is her getting to London on her own then the second flight been cancelled.
  • Another interesting problem, what will happen to the staff and shops that are available airside with things like electrical equipment, ties, foodstuffs etc. I'm assuming these will now have to close with the inevitable loss of jobs, revenue etc.
  • It's all very disrupting but don't forget the bigger picture...the explosions were meant 'to cause death and destruction on an unimaginable scale' and (hopefully) thanks to all this extra security, the possibilty of this happening now is greatly reduced.

Does everyone think that the situation has been dealt with well or are there any critisms on the action taken?

I agree it is necessary to take what ever action necessary to make it safe for people to travel, however there has definately been some overreaction along the way. If the plot the security services uncovered was to be carried out a few days from now, then there was no need to cause a state of panic and disruption at this moment in time. They should have arrested the people involved as they have done and then introduced the "no hand luggage policy" with as little disruption as possible.

I came home last night from Turkey Ismir Airport we were allowed ALL hand luggage, gameboys phones etc infact the checks were no more than previous years, this was 10 hours after the news breaking
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

I suppose they are adopting a 'you can't be too careful' approach! Do you think if they had taken these measures before 911 that it would've prevented the diaster from happening?
