While we are haveing a subject change, I want to rant about owners who let their dogs pooh on the path and the leave it.

krisskross wrote:. Pride is often all that some pensioners have left and they WOULD rather go cold and hungry than fill in copious forms that they don't understand to get what they see as charity.
My mum and my MIL (both dead now) both saw any benefit apart from their State Pension as charity and were worried about applying for them.
I remember my mum being very upset about receiving a letter about a benefit which my BIL had applied for on her behalf. I didn't actually see the letter but what she read was 'YOU are not entitled to it and I am not going to give it to you.' She saw it as very personal and was worried that she was in trouble for even applying and told my BIL not to apply for any more. (He did anyway!).
However, I don't see what the answer is as no-one will get benefits unless they fill the forms in or someone else does it on their behalf.
Single parents? Very variable, same as all sectors of society. I think some single parents are just money-grabbing, either from the state or their ex, or both, and others struggle to get by with no support at all and are really hard-working.
We must not tar all pensioners or all single parents with the same brush.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

black-saturn wrote:My post doesn't say all pensioners, it actually says "all the pensioners I know". I don't claim to know every pensioner in the UK. And I stand by the comment I made about all the pensioners I know.
Also just for the record and for viktory heres the 2 posts I found which accuse me of scrounging off of benefit of which she thanked both:

I would like to point out YET AGAIN that I am not on ANY benefits.
Thank you, BS. However....could I now see the post/s that accuse you of sleeping around?
Edited to add that I did thank both posts above as I felt that they had made salient points.0 -
My grandparents have grafted all thier lives and been MSE to the end. They have invested thier money wisely and now live out thier twilight years mountain biking, painting, going on cruises, playing golf and god forbid eating in pubs. they dont claim any of the winter fuel payments, pension or otherwise as grandad is proud, and he said, well we dont need it do we.
Surley thats the sort of life we all want when we are older. Black-Saturn usually accuses other posters of jealousy, seems like shes jealous herself. They get more money than me. SO BLOODY WHAT. Is this yet another competition as to who is the most hard-done by? Seems so.
At the end of the day, we are ALL fortunate in this country that we have a safety net to prevent destitution. Plenty of other countries have no such net, and I have seen older people, parents and even toddlers, cheek by jowl begging outside bus stations in other parts of the world, and children eating out of bins, so for heavens sake can we count our blessings??? just for once?? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I dont feel us single parents are hard done by compared to OAP's at the end of the day they have apyed thier taxes for many years, but wat does get on my nerves is when my nan who as a single woman who gets £200pw and has no rent to pay moans she is living on the bread line (she used to get half of that before i found out about attendance allowance and sorted all the forms and stuff out for her)
When i dont even get that when working and have rent to pay but am sooo not living in poverty - no where near.
Bless her though she pay's my loan £10pw for me she say's it's a thank you for sorting it all out for her.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
