    They didn't used to. They are also more isolated and has been said before find it more difficult to find employers willing to give them the same rights as working mothers.

    Exactly what special rights do working MOTHERS get? I lost a days pay once because the childminder let me down at the last minute, and the head of the school I worked at was a hard b**** and she said I should have made proper arrangements for childcare, said B**** hauled me over the coals, all because she took the work of some goody two shoes snitch of a child in my tutor group who did their 'duty' and snitched on me for having childcare problems. No one ever usually thinks to ask a father about their family when they go for a job, whereas people ask a woman 'why can you only work part time' (happened to me THIS WEEK)

    My boyfriend is a lone parent dad and I think he's more or less had everything handed on a plate for him from.

    I can assure you they do. I am constantly under pressure to work longer hours by my bosses but I can only work within the restraints of my childminders hours. Applying for a part time job as a man will almost certainly get you asked 'Why' for the simple reason it's not the norm even in this modern era.

    As I said a couple of days ago;
    I even know single mums who still think that a single dad in exactly the same situation doesn't have the same amount of work to do as they do

    I rest my case :confused:

    If a job is advertised as part time though you should not be asked why! Nobody should be asked why. It's verging on discriminatory! I also have health reasons but they can see that from my application form!
    Plus people want to downsize these days - work less, spend less...;)

    I knew a single dad and everyone felt sorry for him. Whereas if you are a single mum it must be 'your fault' Even mum still thinks that people are being single on purpose even though she and i were single mums for a time, respectively through bereavement and domestic violence :rolleyes: People tut and stare and dont help a single mum on the bus with her buggy. And they judge rather than offer sympathy, in the majority of cases. Not all of ocurse.
