i must apologise for the tone of my posts yesterday, i was p1ssed as a fart as the inlaws had come for a visit.
If a lone parent had got p!ssed and posted it on here they would have been slated for it and told they were being irresponsible (and you with a new baby too - tut tut) and asked how on earth can they afford it and been told they should spend their money on their children and be a martyr to them. Thats the difference.

  • The point i'm trying to make is being a parent isnt just about changing nappies, feeding etc it's a whole load of other things alot of which i havent even experienced yet! my nan may not change her nappy's but she still worries sick about the things that go on in her life, she's still got to be there when things go wrong (my mum lives with her so i suppose she puts up with more than most nans)

My mum, when she died at the age of 94 was STILL worrying about my sister (72 at the time) who had Alzheimers, my other sister who'd just lost her husband and myself , who as the youngest by 16 years had it all to come.

My son is 26 and I worry about him because he has Asperger's Syndrome, no job and no partner.

Being a parent IS a lifelong job and it must be much more difficult if you do not have the child's father to share things with.

That's all I have to say as I have never been a single parent, or a mother with an unsupportive father.

Seven as you say its difficult.. I do speak to my ex, only about my children. Usually the conversation is either monosyllabic. or an argument, never got round to his way of thinking, im afraid

Theres so many things you have to think of, and decisions you have to make on your own.. and quite often your scared in case your making the wrong ones..

I haven't read all of this thread, just the first few pages so forgive me if am repeating anything here.

I just have a few ideas how to get out of a bad situation, maybe not straight away but in time.

You can do a lot of courses on Open University and if you are on benefits you can get them paid. This makes you feel like you are achieving something when you gain certificates and a degree and are very useful for when you go for a job interview. It shows the emplyer that you are not sat at home doing nothing and do in fact want to make a career for yourself.

Another option is working in a local school (or even a school your child attends). You can even start of voluntary helping the children to read etc, or if you have gained, say, computer skills, can help out in the IT lessons. Once you show you are reliable, chances are you will be taken on.

You could also deliver Avon / Kleeneze booklets and earn some spare cash through there ...

...there are a few ways to earn extra cash, gain experience or come off IS completely. Its about putting your mind to it and MAKING yourself do it.

It's ok sitting there thinking your better off not working, but is that what you want your children to think when they get older too???

    Just my penny's worth

... just thought of a couple more things

Why don't you apply to be a Mystery Shopper? £10 here and there can only be a good thing and you can earn that a week without it affecting your benefits

Also, make sure you read all the threads on these boards properly, they can save you a fortune in the long run ... £60 off your gas, £30 off electricity, make your own xmas gifts etc ... there are a lot of things you can do to ease the burderns in life, you've just gotta get off your !!!!!! and do them.

WHy doesn't who get off whose !!!!!!? I am fed up of the attitude I still get, even though I'm part of a couple, the 'oh what do you do then'.
What does any mother do? Get up at 6.20, get 3 small people dressed, fed, packed lunches when its school or playscheme, working part time, cleaning the house, laundry laundry and more laundry, legal battles with ex h, the csa and the tax credits, scouring the reduced to clear section for bargains, accountant, counsellor, artist, chef, peacemaker, clothes mender, nurse, personal trainer, motivational speaker;)...
I've told my children my !!!!!! has forgotten it can be sat on, and I shall be buried standing up :)
