Yes you can call the numbers on o2 but any supplier will charge you to call them as their not normally included in bundles. As the call checker points out the prices shown there are based on calls from BT.
But have you read the thread ?Eg Post 42.
" 0844/0871 calls on O2 homephone are very expensive they are nearly double what BT charge"
If the Intl Destination you call is a Landline in one of the many Intl destinations mentioned http://broadband.o2.co.uk/homephone/callCharges.jsp it might be worth your while buying the dearer 24/7 inclusive call bundle.
If its not you can still apparently use the likes of www.18185.co.uk
Or you could use the inclusive evening and weekend minutes to call a geographical access number eg www.localphone.com0 -
Another MoneySavingExpert type tip for calling international. I was lucky as a VERY early subscriber to o2 Home Broadband to be lent their original "o2 box" which included, completely unadvertised, SIP hardware circuitry (which would otherwise have cost another £30-£50 & another electricity supply).
That SIP is the standards basis for Voice over IP, VoIP, and with a bit of Googling etc managed to enable those circuits and have been using them for VoIP ever since. I chose one of the Finerea/betamax brands called www.Internetcalls.com (based on my call patterns). I top that a/c up with 10 Euros plus VAT every so often and that entitles me to 120 days of FREE calls to about 25 countries (subject to a fair usage of 300mins/7days) and cheap even when not free - ie takes quite a long time to run down the €10 even when free days have run out!
BUT the clever bit, which is why I'm relating it, is that their website account interface allows you to setup a call between two phones WITHOUT any SIP/VoIP circuitry - ie you can enter a "FROM landline" and a "TO number" to cause the phone to ring at FROM and for it be put into a call to TO. Hence when my mother wants to ring her sister in America, I'm just asked to initiate the call for them and they chat away at 0 eurocents per minute (ie using some free allowance, but max would be 1c/minute) PLUS a 5eurocent setup fee (ie they charge just 5c for the privilege of setting up the call that way!). Worth looking into if the idea piques your interest

an 2.5yr o2 Home BB Std subscriber who decided against o2 Home Phone as 6m into my BB contract, I didnt wish to start a fresh 12m commitment to it, especially as o2 Home BB are being SILENT about fibre based broadband (and my exchange is one of 2 or 3 where fibre to HOME is trialling imminently but o2 won't say ANYTHING = head in sand!)0 -
I'm interested in switching from BT to O2, in fact, I've already had a call from O2 offering me their home phone services. I told them I'd get back to them.
As I said, I'm currently with BT and my 12 month contract expires on the 29th May. I informed BT at the beginning of the month of my intention not to renew with them. I understand that now places me out of contract, paying slightly more each month than I was (for unlimited calls) but with no tie-in beyond their normal 14 day notice period. My question is this: do I simply tell O2 that I want their home phone and they do the rest? Or do I have to give notice to BT and get a cancellation date, then contact O2? I don't want to be in a position where BT have cancelled my contract before O2 have 'taken' the line and I have no phone to transfer. Any advice appreciated.0 -

Just phone o2 and they will sort out the rest. Takes about 10 working days to be transferred over. Process very smooth, and kept up to date via sms/email at various stages0 -

Just place the order with O2.
About a week later you'll get a letter from BT stating that they have been informed that you are moving to 'another supplier' (on the date which should be the same as O2 have informed you) and that they have taken this to mean that you are terminating your contract with them. It then goes on to warn about charges if you are in contract etc. and trying to win you back.
However, there is nothing you need to do. When the line gets switched to O2 then BT should generate their final bill 'which must be paid immediately'. When that's paid you should be rid of them, unless that is you have other services through your BT bill not associated with your line.
Don't go contacting BT seperately about ending contracts etc. - you will just cause problems for yourself by mucking up the system!0 -
Thank you both. I was worried that if I didn't involve BT, specifically giving them 14 days notice, then things could get messy with penalties, etc.0

This is why it takes 14 days to move line. BT get the cancellation notice the moment the order is passed to Openreach by O2, and the line move won't happen for at least another 14 days after that.
Hence BT are getting the 14 days notice automatically via computer systems, thankfully without you having to deal with an Indian call centre0 -
Hi everyone
I have seen other posts on here about O2 home phone and they seem to be mainly discussing connections and charges, what I really need to know is how good have they been for you?
What are your experiences of O2 home phone, good, bad or indifferent?
O2 users (or ex users!) only please!
Many thanks!0 -
I have been on O2 for almost a month now. Transfer was faultless and happened when they said it would. I have had no problems and the billing has been accurate (I'm on the Unlimited tarrif)
All in all, I am happy with the switch.
And to top it off, BT transferred my Credit amount back into my bank account within 3 days of the service transferring to O2....0
