My O2 Home phone is being activated on Friday. I'll let you know after the weekend.
  • Did anyone manage to get to the bottom of whether you need to have a phone line already?

Always makes me laugh when you see the headline "phone lines from XXX" and then somewhere in the form, "enter your phone number (mandatory)"

Yes, a BT line is required. If someone doesn't have a phone already it seems they would have no choice but to ask BT for one.

Since you can't have O2 home phone without taking the broadband too, it's clear that what O2 are really trying to do is add home phone turnover to their existing broadband customer base.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Indeed, whilst charging extra for some basic facilities.

Not true. O2 had problems with the people who were going to be putting in their own lines and that is why the roll out of O2 home phone was delayed but I confirmed in their shop the other day that they will indeed put in a new line for you and charge you around £40, which they will refund on your bill, making it a free installation.

Their site suggests otherwise and does not mention free installation.

"To take O2 Home Phone you'll need to have a BT landline already installed at your property, so that we can switch you over. You'll also need to pick one of our home broadband packages - we don't offer O2 Home Phone on its own."

Would also be interested if o2 allow override providers like 18185 but would be surprised if they do

I was phoned up by O2 to offer me the home phone service, as I have broadband and had registered an interest.
I asked the chap during the call if I could use the override providers, and he had to consult with a separate team. The answer was that yes, you will be able to override.

However I'd still like confirmation from someone who gets O2 home phone and tries it!

My O2 service goes live later this month. Customer service at Post Office was just non existent. My main reason for the change is I have always received good CS from O2. I would expect that to continue since it would seem the broadband department are in charge of home phone, at least for now.

the anytime deal gives you 24/7 landline calls inclusive, you can do the 1 hour hang up trick so you done get charged

Im getting O2 Anytime soon and Im abit confused by this...

I'm planning to use it to call Australia and France quite abit. If I call for France for less than an hour and then hang up, I won't be charged. I understand that much. But if I call back immediately, can I call for another 59 minutes for free or do I have to wait a day or week or month.

In essence is there some limit to this 1 hour feature. It can't possibly be unlimited??
