O2 Landline

I've just had a phone call from O2 Land-line asking me to sign up

I registered for it back when it was first announced as I am an O2 mobile and broadband customer

Ordinarily I would have signed up on the spot as we let our 12 month contract for BT evening and weekend package lapse so we could go to O2

Though we are moving house at some point in the next month...

The woman from O2 said as long as there was a BT phone line there they could move us free of charge but we wont know until we get there

She didn't mention a launch date (and I stupidly forgot to ask - doh)

But it sounds like its imminent!

  • Rushed to their website to check and it's not live yet!

I'm with the Post Office Home Phone and while I initially thought I was getting a landline solely for broadband, their free calls to 40 international numbers at the weekend is actually very good.

Am I right in thinking that the O2 Anytime package will offer the same ANYTIME for just 50p more?

    I can't wait.

    Actually, I will. For reviews....

I'm on Post Office HomePhone too, but have swapped over this morning to O2, i make the odd phonecall during the day, and the Top 22 locations suits me well, free calls to US Numbers including mobiles at anytime. Post Office have the advantage of having free mobile calls at weekends, but my useage of normal numbers during the day is greater in need. But at the same price as PostOffice its better for me at the moment.

Date I go live is 6/05/2010....

    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!

600mins of calls to international numbers/month, is still beyond my current useage

I suppose it'll be of use to people who make several calls during the day, and never need to call non-0845 numbers (or have a fault on their lines )

    Exactly so it is free!!

And more to the point its not paying money to BT... so its a little bit more expensive but its got British customer services who actually try and help rather than just repeat a useless irrelevant script read by 'Andy' in India....

How can they be free when you have to purchase a bundle to get them. Inclusive but not free !!

How do you know what the customer service is going to be like early days yet.:D

I've signed up to O2 Home Phone and Broadband after comparing what I have / need from my BT package - and I'll be saving £15 per month, and getting a potentially faster Broadband too. I had a well discounted package from BT for both phone and broadband, but the savings with O2 will more than pay for the odd 0845 / 0870 call I might need to make after 7pm (especially with saynoto0870 around).

I'm sure people can highlight the odd negative - and a lot of people love doing this - but the bottom line is whether people's day-to-day costs are decreased for equivalent functionality and usage. Mine certainly will be.

My first impressions of their customer services are pretty good too - although I accept it's early days yet.
  • Hi all,
Just cancelled my VM today and have 30 days to find a new deal for telephone line & broadband. I used lots of calls to 0844 numbers and just find out that VM charged me alot for this for awhile now. I saw there's Primus @ £8.99pm, but their charges for 0844 861#### is around 5ppm which is about the same as VM, thinking of O2 but thanks for the warning from another post . Please could anyone point me to a right direction as to get cheap combination for line rental and bb package(I currently have 10mb with VM and want more or less the same). many thanks in advance.

Primus charge the same as BT for 0843/0844 calls and that is most certainly NOT the same as Virgin (Virgin charges excessively for all ranges of 0843/0844/0871/0872 and 0873 numbers - up to ten times the 'real' prices).

    The 'real' prices vary and, depending on the 5th, 6th and 7th digits, are ½p/minute, 1p/minute, 2p/minute, 3p/minute, 4p/minute or 5p/minute.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
