Could I ask how much any of you are spending on your groceries? I know that I spend way too much, but I have been finding with Slimming World that I have saved a lot on buying sandwiches at work every day but I am spending a lot on fruit.

I am pleased with my weightloss so far, a total of nine pounds, but would really like some money saving tips.

I have got into omelette with quark in a big way and my home grown salad and spinach is doing well at the moment, but I find when I buy a big bag of apples to save money I am more tempted by other goodies, wheras when I buy cherries, I am much happier with the cherries, but the cost is higher.

Maybe the answer is that if I want to lose weight, I have to spend some money and the cost of the fruit surely only equates to the cost of the chocolate and takeaway food I was eating before.

Help! I bought some olive oil cooking spray assuming that it would be free like frylight but now I am not so sure. I cannot find it on the SW website at all.
    The details are:
    Aarhus Karlshamm UK
olive oil cooking spray containing 20% olive oil
    per 100 ml 208 Kcal
    22g fat
    0g protein, 0g carbohydrate

If anyone knows is this free as I don't know if it will be, as not sure how much a spray woul be, 1 ml, 5 ml etc

    TIA

As far as I'm aware, the only syn-free oil spray is Frylight, but that's not to say you can't use others, just be careful and use as little as possible.

You're allowed a tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil as a HEB too :)
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

I think you answered your own question there :D

I honestly don't think it costs any more to eat healthily than it does when you're regularly buying (and eating) crisps, chocolate, biscuits etc etc - all high priced items. I tend to use local markets for my fruit and veg - it's MUCH cheaper and the quality is often better than supermarkets.

I wonder if you could focus more on veg than fruit as it is cheaper. I know I love eating a raw carrot more than an apple (nice and crunchy, pretty sweet, no waste afterwards!) and one of my faves is eating sugar snap peas raw :)

We have set our monthly food budget at 160.00 per month (2 adults). I have done SW for a month now and haven't found I've gone over budget.

As you say.. out have gone the crisps, biscuits about a tonne of bread and cakes and in came very low fat yoghurt, fruit and veggies and this has been roughly equal in cost terms. However I have been eating a LOT more food than usual but it hasn't had an effect on the budget. So I feel I am getting better value for the money I spend.

Is there really any problem with eating tinned fruit in fruit juice(with fruit juice drained).
Fresh chopped pineapple getting very expensive for breakfast.
If u ate a similar amount compared to what u ate if fresh, do u think it would still help u lose weight.
I know Slimmingworld says not to. Has anyone done this & still lost?

Just for comparison I have the fry light extra virgin olive oil spray and the nutritional values on it per 100ml are:

    549 kcal
    57.6g fat
    protein trace
    carb 0.3g

So your one seems much more healthier and as long as it was in a similar spray bottle I would count it as free. I think the higher cal/fat value of the frylight one is because it contains 56% extra virgin olive oil as opposed to the 20% your one contains.

Having read the nutritional values of the frylight I've decided that as soon as mine runs out I'll definitely be making my own from now on.

Once i refilled a frylight spray with 1/3rd extra light olive oil and 2/3rds water - would that have been syn free?
A light spritz (1 or 2 squirts) used to coat the pan fine.

I'm going to try this when my frylight runs out and will count it as free. The frylight I have contains 56% olive oil so I don't see why not plus you will be avoiding all the nasties.
