    Not a problem :)

Flour is 4½ syns per 28gms
Sugar is 1 syn per level teaspoon
Dried yeast is ½ syn per level teaspoon (2½ per 28gms)
Fresh yeast is 1½ syns for 57 gms (so less per tsp than dried)
½ pint milk is 7½ for semi / 4½ for skimmed / 9¼ for whole

I'll let you work it all out lol.

Misuse of free foods is when foods which are meant to be the basis of an actual (filling) meal are used as snack foods in between meals. You can have your roasted chickpeas, but syn them as for a red day (½ syns for 28gms boiled or canned).

You can have as many snacks as you like on any plan as long as it's free foods (bestter to be superfree foods for good weight loss).

Syn free, superfree and speed/superspeed are all marked in the Food Optimising book.
Superfree is all fruit and almost all veg (except the carby ones like parsnips, peas, sweetcorn etc).
Speed foods are marked with an 'S' and superspeed are marked with 'SS'. These are foods with lots of bulk but not many calories and therefore are helpful to boost weightloss.

It'll all come together when you've been at it for a while, don't worry :D

The 'misuse of free foods' started when SW found out how enterprising members can be when they want cake. Along came couscous cake, polenta cake, chickpea cake etc etc. It's fine as long as you have a slice now and again, but after adding the syns and making them syn-free, we had members eating a whole cake every day and wondering why they couldn't lose weight :)

Right, i worked this out very crudely inbetween doing a million things

    Flour is 4½ syns per 28gms - 339.75 grams = 54.6
Sugar is 1 syn per level teaspoon 2 syns (optional)
Dried yeast is ½ syn per level teaspoon (2½ per 28gms) 1.5 syns
    ½ pint milk is 7½ for semi / 4½ for skimmed / 9¼ for whole 3.75

61.85 (62 to round up) syns for two small loaves of around 400g each. Each small loaf split into 6 portions = 32 syns per loaf, or 5.33 - per sixth of a loaf. The loaf size 400g /6 = 66.66g so not far off a HEB !

this is why i don't understand how it can't be subbed for a HEB ?

I just find it baffling why pre made bread mixes and bread full of preservatives etc is deemed as more healthy or filling than home made where you know exactly what's in it (but then again, I guess this is just something I will have to suck up and get used to . The OS in me wonders why though :) )

Also wondered is it possible to make your own frylight? My bottle says it is 57% (from memory) oil , and remaining is water and preservative /other. If you diluted it to that ration with water, would that be the same job?

    Sorry :o

breakfast - 2 value weetabix HEB with s/s milk HEA from 250ml daily 1 satsuma FREE
lunch - 1 seeded roll SYNS - a granary bap at 113g is 13.5 syns ( wasnt sure about this as dont see many ppl posting they have eaten bread so hoping for clarification on this when get book ) stuffed with ham quark (free)( not sure about this tasted a bit like smooth cottage cheese ) toms and rocket (free) served with a mixed salad(free) and balsamic vinegar (free)
dinner - spag bol - carrots celery onions toms no added fat and a big mixed salad with balsamic vinegar (all free)

have some strawbs and mango to eat later for a dessert (both free)

have drunk lots of black decaf tea and 2 beakers of diet coke Free free

Here are my thoughts if you are doing EE day - I am literally back to learning, so it's me trying to test my understanding as well as possibly trying to help you :) (so i may be wrong)

You only get one HEB a day on EE - so that is bread, cereal or certain cereal bars - again these are all measured to ensure you don't go over that one portion.

I would have had pasta with quark and ham for lunch and a small bit of spaghetti with dinner (pasta and spaghetti are free on EE). Then again, I am a bit of a starvo :o

So i am trying to help, purely to check my understanding as well

    My food today

    Tuesday 11 may

    1 banana

    2 small oranges

3 bacon, 1 egg and beans

2 toast HEB and two quorn sausages with butter (2)

    Banana and pear

Fried egg , Sw chips, small amount of beans, cheese from HEA and loads of baby tomatoes

Syns - 2 from butter and 6.5 for crisps YAY 2 for choc so 10.5

Ex - Walked 30 mins, 15 of which with very heavy shopping :o

this is an EE day as I currently understand it . Any advice?

Hi zippychick....sorry it took a while to get back to you...

Those tesco chicken wrapped in bacon with cheese "pellet" are 1.5syns per breast on EE :T-I had them as 1 per 100g -so thats right....
So you can use them now (and still have syns left for something extra ;))

I got them because they were whoopsed and they are rather nice.... Its not often I buy anything ready done but they were 56c per pack if I remember correctly :p

EDIT to add -well done on the losses :j
    -6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.5

I have a question about bread as a HEB. When I weighed a slice from my Hovis loaf it was 40g a slice, yet a HEB is 57g of any wholemeal bread (except pitta) so if I have two slices (80g) can I just syn the extra 27g? Also why are pittas excluded?

Im sure you enjoyed the scone :D

The roll wouldn't have been ok as a HEB - a HEB is usually around 6 syns - and is assessed as such for its filling power . a HEB is from a list of pre approved things - examples being 57g of any wholemeal bread (excluding pitta as they are not as filling). Another eg would be 1 hovis golden wholemeal roll, or 2 slices white nimble bread . (you will get this list in your book at class :) )

Granary bread doesn't seem to feature at all for Hebs in my book. So if you hadn't had the scone , but still had the granary bread - that's entirely fine as you could syn the granary roll :)

MrsMcA - you're a legend, thank you! :jFunny how we both fell into the low fat pre made chicken trap we don't normally! :rotfl:Feel very full today so maybe i will give EE a go and try to avoid bread so often

    Greenpixey - congrats! :T

    GISI
    - i would assume that would be ok, but wait until someone who knows answers :) Pittas mustn't have good filling power (or be fibre rich)
