Hi everyone, I joined this forum today after another girl at my group suggested googling forum support for SW. Tonight will be my fourth weigh in at SW. So far I've been doing ok, I lost 6.5lbs in my 1st week, 2lbs in my 2nd week & 2.5lbs in my 3rd week, I got my half stone award on my 2nd week & hoping for my stone award tonight (fingers crossed) I've been pushing myself this week to see if it's possible to achieve a 3lb loss after the 1st initial big loss week. I've been going to the gym & running 5miles on the treadmill for 4 days & doing a few of the weight machines for toning up, but my friend said this is bad & I might gain weight from building muscle, does anyone know if this is true or is she trying to unsettle me?

Your friend is sort of right - you may well put on a little bit this week, but comfort yourself in the knowledge that it will only be temporary as your body will retain a little extra water to protect your muscles from damage while the level of exercise you're doing is new.

Also. don't forget to measure yourself (bust, waist, hips) as your shape will change - probably dramatically if you keep up the exercise. You'll look gorgeous in no time :D

Hello all! Some great advice on here, as ever.

Menu for today on EE has been/will be....

B- Apple, Fibre Plus Bar (HEB)

L-Jacket Potato, Tuna Mayo (3 syns), Salad

D-Mash, Cod in Parsley Sauce (1 syn), Carrots, Peas, Sweetcorn

S-Sugar Free Jelly (0.5 syns), Blueberries, Options (2 syns), Club Biscuit (5.5 syns)

    =12 syns, I think!

It's a tasting session at our group tomorrow. Has anyone got any ideas of what I could make to take in? I really dislike any cakes or anything made with sweetener and would rather just spend the syns on a full sugar version so I'm a bit stuck!

I have the old books for green red and mix2match, so was going to stick with that , but might try out the EE for some variety too

I don't buy much pre packaged stuff (try not to anyway) so am struggling to think how you would work out HM bread etc - i make mine half wholemeal half white. Is it as laborious as adding up the quantity for each ingredient, then dividing by the number of portions to work out the syns?:o Or do you just sub 57g of home made brown and use it as a HEB?

Not sure how EE will go for me as i love bread and i love cheese, so suspect i may feel a little deprived not having both. I will give it a bash and see how it goes though:o

Don't think the classes are for me - want to see if i can do it on my own using the older books. The only one i am really missing i think is the new EE specific one.....

Can someone confirm - are roasted chickpeas free ? Roasted with a little oil (oil being synned). They are so yummy and addictive it seems to good to br true that they are free

I bought whoopsied chicken today with bacon and cheese - reckon it is 11 syns but can i take 6 syns off that for the cheese HEA? No idea what made me buy it, I never buy stuff like that.....

Also , are bananas kind of frowned upon?I just get that impression !

    Zip

Right, from the top, lol.........home made bread would have to be worked out by synning the ingredients. If you put them on here, we can have a go at doing that for you.

Brown bread isn't a HEB - only wholemeal. Cheese is only a HEA on Extra Easy not a HEB as well (as it is on the Green plan) and to be accurate, you shouldn't take 6 syns off your chicken meal for the cheese since you don't know how much cheese there is.

Bananas are free food, but having said that, I always think it's best to not eat more than about 2 a day as they are quite high in calories.

The roast chickpeas are not syn free I'm afraid as they're not intended to be eaten as a snack food but as the basis for a filling meal 0 this comes under the 'misuse of free foods' rule.

    Hope that helps :)

I always find the pasta n sauce quiches go down well in group and are syn-free (or very low syn).

Take a Bachelor's P & S, make up as directed using water only. Whisk 3 large eggs together and stir into the uncooked mixture. Pour into a quiche dish and cook on Gas 6 for around 30 - 40 mins till the top is golden.

I particularly like the Brocolli and cheese one which is ½ syn for the whole thing. It makes an easy packed lunch when cold too when sliced and added to a nice big salad.

    Evening all

Well done on the losses folks :T....and hello to the newbies:D

Zippychick -I don't suppose the chicken you are on about are the Tesco "just cook" ones are they? only I worked them out on the EE (I joined online) and you get an allowance for the chicken/bacon so they came out as 1 point... :D -I don't usually buy stuff like that either but they were whoopsed (some habits don't go) :rotfl:
If there is the nutritional values on your chicken I can work it out on the online calculator for you... I need to know :-
    per 100g
cals, carbs, protein, fat and prtion sixe -I think thats it...oh and if you are on red/green/EE
    -6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.5

I've gone back to SW after a long time away. In fact, my first encounter with the mistress that is the scales was 15 years and a week ago! I've got to get back on track, and make sure that the success I had back in 1995/6, is replicated, but this time, it will stay off.

I've started on the EE, having had numerous goes on Red and Green. I might have had success in the past, but i'm reading my book cover to cover to make sure that I get the most out of the new thinking.....and I'll have a smaller ar** to boot :)

    Take care

Best of luck for WI. I get weighed in on a Thursday evening and spend the entire day getting myself in a state about WI; so I know exactly how you feel.

Are the Tesco onion rings in a multipack?? I love onion rings!

Yes they are in a multipack, you get 2 onion rings, 2 S & V sticks and 2 cheese puffs. I am addicted to the Salt and V sticks, so need to work out the syns on these too.

They are really cheap too, less than 50p.

As someone else has already told you, the newest book has a slice of lime on the front. The pack also has an Extra Easy menu planner which will no doubt be very helpful for you. BUT (and it's a big but) please please reconsider going to a group at least once to join, get the pack and an explanation of the plan. It will cost you £9.95 and you will get everything you need whereas on eBay, I have seen the pack go for as much as £40, honestly it's such a rip-off and makes me very angry

I understand you have mobility problems, but the venues are usually church halls or similar and therefore disability-friendly and you will be made most welcome once you're in. You needn't attend more than the once but you will save yourself a lot of money and help to stop the money-grubbing scammers on eBay at the same time :D

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated!

The packs certainly are selling well on Ebay.......

VERY interesting about going at least once and getting the booklets - I thought it would be like WW were you get a bit each week for several weeks.

Special thanks to Emmamumof2 for her very kind help! :D

Today was my 1st SW EE day, if you experienced peeps could take a look and tell me if I am doing it right, I would be very grateful :T

    Free Foods

very low fat natural fromage frais
    baked beans in tomato sauce
    eggs
    chicken
    potatoes
    apples
    mango
    plums
    raspberries

    Healthy Extras

    a 250ml semi-skimmed milk
b 2 slices wholemeal bread (400g small sliced loaf)

    Syns
    Sugar, caster 1
    Butter, full fat 3½
    Butter, full fat 3½
    Cheese, basic, Cheddar 6
    Total Syns 14

Mmmmm.....not sure if that's the best way to post what I have eaten????

Breakfast was fruit and fat free fromage frais

Lunch was scrambled eggs on toast

Tea was jacket potato, 28g cheese, tablesp baked beans

Snacks were fruit & chicken breast

I am used to eating low carb and high fat and after just one day I can see I am going to have to watch my added fats, had 10g of butter on toast and 10g of butter on potato and that REALLY munched up my syns, so need to re-think that tomorrow.

However I HATE low fat versions of food and would prefer a wee bit of butter to a big knob of low fat spread :rotfl:

Regards the cheese in chicken plan - yes, cheeky i know !i knew it was. I was just annoyed at buying something like this, when i start slimming world. Silly cow ! :o (me not you:rotfl:) I just thouht as i havent had any cheese at all today or HEA i could deduct it from the chicken . Ok, won't do that!

Chickpeas - Hmm thought so. After reading this thread I have seen the misuse of free foods rule mentioned- and it's not one I am familiar with to be honest. Back a couple of years ago there was never any mention , so it's a new term to me. Is there some sort of definition? Like you say - the chickpeas are designed to be in a filling meal, but if i snacked on some just cooked with a bit of s and p (without being roasted) , is that still misuse of free foods? Is EE only 3 meals a day and that's where it comes in? Sorry if i sound daft... just getting my head round it all:o.

Am now also confused about syn free, super free and super fast (or some other term )

Mrs McA - they are tesco "simply cook" with cheese chicken and bacon. :)

Regards home made bread, for sake of argument let's use this recipe. It's a really nice easy roll recipe - i made it using half the total quantities, got 7 rolls which were around 100g each in weight! So that's around 700-800g of "bread" (some rolls bigger than others) . I had the thought of making two small loaves to slice as it toasts up yummy and is filling, but i just don't know if it's worth it :)

Sorry in advance, i'm not normally such a pain in the butt:p
