I always find the pasta n sauce quiches go down well in group and are syn-free (or very low syn).

Take a Bachelor's P & S, make up as directed using water only. Whisk 3 large eggs together and stir into the uncooked mixture. Pour into a quiche dish and cook on Gas 6 for around 30 - 40 mins till the top is golden.

I particularly like the Brocolli and cheese one which is ½ syn for the whole thing. It makes an easy packed lunch when cold too when sliced and added to a nice big salad.

Seriously? The broccolli one is half a syn?? I lOVE that one. Haven't been having it because I thought being cheesy it would be more. ooh!

I've a quick question. Where I've had the extra HExB option this week. Sometimes in the day I split 28g of cheese so I have 14g in an omellette at lunch and 14g on my pots at night. Still counting it as one HExB - is that allowed or am I supposed to have it all in one go?

Strictly speaking you're not supposed to split HEs but as long as it's weighed out carefully so that overall you're only getting the 28gms, I don't see a problem with it.

If there is the nutritional values on your chicken I can work it out on the online calculator for you... I need to know :-
    per 100g
cals, carbs, protein, fat and prtion sixe -I think thats it...oh and if you are on red/green/EE
How did i miss this part of your post?

type of day - unsure.... started today thinking am EE, but might just stick to green or red as reading 50 pages of this thread in one day has overloaded my teeny brain! I would only eat something like this meat heavy on EE day or red :)

    per100g cooked

    cals 147
    carbs 0.26
    protien 24
fat 5.26 or 2.3 of which saturates
    portion size 150g

I am tempted to have one without knowing and cross my fingers but that doesn't make for a good first day! Worst case scenario i can syn the whole thing and resist crisps!:D
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Actually on the SW website it says that it's absolutely fine to split HEs but only where there is a single food so half cheese and half milk would be fine but not porridge because the HEB is 28g porridge + scan/oat bran.

Chickpeas - Hmm thought so. After reading this thread I have seen the misuse of free foods rule mentioned- and it's not one I am familiar with to be honest. Back a couple of years ago there was never any mention , so it's a new term to me. Is there some sort of definition? Like you say - the chickpeas are designed to be in a filling meal, but if i snacked on some just cooked with a bit of s and p (without being roasted) , is that still misuse of free foods? Is EE only 3 meals a day and that's where it comes in? Sorry if i sound daft... just getting my head round it all:o.

Am now also confused about syn free, super free and super fast (or some other term )

Regards home made bread, for sake of argument let's use this recipe. It's a really nice easy roll recipe - i made it using half the total quantities, got 7 rolls which were around 100g each in weight! So that's around 700-800g of "bread" (some rolls bigger than others) . I had the thought of making two small loaves to slice as it toasts up yummy and is filling, but i just don't know if it's worth it :)

Sorry in advance, i'm not normally such a pain in the butt:p

    Not a problem :)

Flour is 4½ syns per 28gms
Sugar is 1 syn per level teaspoon
Dried yeast is ½ syn per level teaspoon (2½ per 28gms)
Fresh yeast is 1½ syns for 57 gms (so less per tsp than dried)
½ pint milk is 7½ for semi / 4½ for skimmed / 9¼ for whole

I'll let you work it all out lol.

Misuse of free foods is when foods which are meant to be the basis of an actual (filling) meal are used as snack foods in between meals. You can have your roasted chickpeas, but syn them as for a red day (½ syns for 28gms boiled or canned).

You can have as many snacks as you like on any plan as long as it's free foods (bestter to be superfree foods for good weight loss).

Syn free, superfree and speed/superspeed are all marked in the Food Optimising book.
Superfree is all fruit and almost all veg (except the carby ones like parsnips, peas, sweetcorn etc).
Speed foods are marked with an 'S' and superspeed are marked with 'SS'. These are foods with lots of bulk but not many calories and therefore are helpful to boost weightloss.

It'll all come together when you've been at it for a while, don't worry :D

The 'misuse of free foods' started when SW found out how enterprising members can be when they want cake. Along came couscous cake, polenta cake, chickpea cake etc etc. It's fine as long as you have a slice now and again, but after adding the syns and making them syn-free, we had members eating a whole cake every day and wondering why they couldn't lose weight :)
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Mmm, a newish rule that is ok as long as people weigh and measure carefully. It always used to be a no-no and I've found that members can get very crafty in their splitting of HEs to the point where weight loss suffers :rotfl:

I have the Actimel Fat Free ones and they are yummy. They're the only fat free ones I like...I think Muller Lites are yuck.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not keen on eggs (I'm a right fussy moo, I don't eat meat either) but I found a recipe for Baked Bean and Cottage Cheese Burgers. I figure I can make mini ones, a bit like a falafel type thing and take those. Hope they are nicer than they sound!
