I've been using a HTC Desire on T-Mobile from when they were first released and was lucky enough to get it direct from them.
This phone has possibly one of the most sensitive 2G/3G radio's of any phone I have ever used. I frequently visit a location with *very* poor phone reception on any network and most phones flat out to refuse there's any signal there. The desire will hang on in - just.
Regarding 3G issues I have had none - although the phone will use a *lot* of data, with the flash support. There is an .apk file on XDA-Devs which allows for FULL flash support prior to the 2.2 (FroYo) update and I must say performance is quite blistering on WiFi or HSDPA. The WiFi won't disconnect by default in sleep mode so it won't use any 3G data overnight anyway.
The minor update also fixed minor annoyances such as low music playback volume and the phone taking 5 minutes to turn off. 2.2 should bring some more good stuff to the party.
The HTC Desire in theory could run Android 3 (Gingerbread) but they are just rumours at the moment.
Honestly, I've never been happier with a phone but I don't think I could put up with a network with a 500MB data limit.
Good to hear such good first hand info on the Desire.
I'll be able to get one at the end of August, I'll probably have to leave Vodafone and go to t-mobile for the 3GB internet allowance, unless Vodafone offer to match it, which I doubt.

Vodafone offer 1GB on the Desire now, which should be OK - but 3GB is nicer. Vodafone charge for going over the usage, T-Mobile don't (yet!)
If you can get T-Mobile 3G coverage (which is pretty good in my experience) then without question go with them.0 -

Hi...
I'm hoping that Vodafone will be able to increase my limit to 3GB.
I've been with them for 9 years so fingers crossed. If they don't I'll go to t-mobile.

I ordered one from O2 for £285 outright as described here and elsewhere.
It works fine, but just a warning, this one is locked to O2. It seems that before they were all supplied unlocked. Either I've been very unlucky or the new supply is all locked.0 -
Hi all, does anyone know if I get a desire handset through e2save on orange network, will it be locked or unlocked? thanks0
