I've seen an awful lot of threads about how useless the Desire is on its 3G reception and people have had issues with it downloading large amounts of data overnight. I've also seen something about Google removing a couple of apps (article HERE).
With Android 2.2 only just out, why is there now talk of Android 3? Will the Desire run Android 3? I understand the minimum requirements of Android 3 would be:
1-GHz processor,
512MB of RAM memory,
displays no smaller than 3.5 inches
higher resolutions of up to 1280 by 760 pixels available only for devices with displays larger than 4 inches
So my question really boils down to "is it worth buying a phone that is already out of date"?In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
I've been using a HTC Desire on T-Mobile from when they were first released and was lucky enough to get it direct from them.
This phone has possibly one of the most sensitive 2G/3G radio's of any phone I have ever used. I frequently visit a location with *very* poor phone reception on any network and most phones flat out to refuse there's any signal there. The desire will hang on in - just.
Regarding 3G issues I have had none - although the phone will use a *lot* of data, with the flash support. There is an .apk file on XDA-Devs which allows for FULL flash support prior to the 2.2 (FroYo) update and I must say performance is quite blistering on WiFi or HSDPA. The WiFi won't disconnect by default in sleep mode so it won't use any 3G data overnight anyway.
The minor update also fixed minor annoyances such as low music playback volume and the phone taking 5 minutes to turn off. 2.2 should bring some more good stuff to the party.
The HTC Desire in theory could run Android 3 (Gingerbread) but they are just rumours at the moment.
Honestly, I've never been happier with a phone but I don't think I could put up with a network with a 500MB data limit.0 -
